 We have oredered a new auto trail apache on a 4000kg chassis along with the new 130 multijet engine, however reading test reports of other motorhomes the general opinion seems to be that it isn't quite up to the job, but we always believed that it gave better performance than the old 2.8 JTD. Are there any owners of the 130 multijet engine who can shed any light on the subject.

My Tracker with the 2.0Ltr/ 84BHP/3500Kg has perfectly reasonable performance.

However all the engine ECUs can be reprogrammed (£250-450) to increase the performance.

I think that one of the biggest problems regarding performance lies with the newer 6 speed gearboxes. OK in cars and vans but with caravans and MHs it's 'an improvement' too far!

Not a good idea to buy any vehicle without a test drive. You might find that it rolls like a pig, has poor steering or it's get and go has got up and went - sorry, but I have never liked the Fiat lumps anyway

Go get it re-mapped costs about £300 (takes about half hour), go for a custom remap to get as much torque as you need, you wont be disappointed

BTW The 6 speed box is Ok when you get used to the ratios.The 4 tonne is built on the Maxi Chassis, developed especially for the MH industry.

  It's ggod to hear that the 2.3 is on a par with the 2.8 because hat's what we were told, whatever the performance is like i'm sure it will be much better than our Talbot

Cant help much 'cos only recently purchased first motorhome - Bessacar with 3400kg max.

However, it has 130 engine with 5 speed box, On journey home, and subsequent 40mile round trip it went like a train, although with no kit on board.
