I know most ukcs members are old hands at this but just a few tips for anyone new to m/homing not using the van for a few weeks try to move your road wheels a half turn once a week to avoid getting flat spots on the tyres, if you can try to leave the hand brake off with the wheels chocked, make sure you have drained all the water from the habitation area of the van,

Our new Motorhome dispenses the contents of the fresh water tank when the temperature drops to a certain level (I have forgotten what it is) but I still think it is worth making sure it is empty anyway this time of year.......old habits die hard!

We sort of semi laid up the MH by draing all the necessary water etc. & because I'd spent a fair few hours cleaning it, including the roof, which is a task in itself, I decided to buy a Fiamma top cover to keep the MH clean til next time we used it, big mistake! Even though we had more elasticated ties than would make up a substantial bungy rope, holding the cover as tight as possible, the rubbing marks on the paint work, caused by the Fiamma Tarp moving in the wind, were a nightmare to remove. We took the cover off to give the MH a short run for an hour or so & we were saddened to see the damage caused by the tarp. Thankfully we had covered the windows as a precaution against such an event. Needless to say it hasn't gone back on. (Anyone want to buy a tarp 28'x18'????)

Leave all your cupboards open to. i have a heater on a timer, that comes on for an hour per day.

Best way is to use the van though.

Val, I am not sure what you are saying about your water tank? Surely that would render it useless in winter if it done that. say for example the temp dropped below -5 duting the night whilst touring, are you saying you would awake in the morning to no fresh water? Tiome for you to go back to the show room one thinks.

Your water will only dump if the temperature falls below that level, if you are in the MH and have no heating on (bigger fool you) the temperature will drop below the critical point and you loose your water. When we are in the MH we leave the heating on, when it is cold, the bolier is near the dump switch and creates more than enough heat to stop from dumping. We also like to have a nice warm vehicle so no issue there.

When laying up the MH, put your external covers over the fridge, this helps.

Our Ozzy,

Currently Lidl have Painters Thick cloth Dustsheets for sale which could be ideal to lay below your cover to save the marks. At a price I believe around £3 could be worth a try.

David
