Hi you camper owners...could i please just ask your advice.....have you ever experienced this problem...and if so...what did you do to rectify it....i drove 68 miles home on Sunday from middlesbrough...no problems put the camper on the drive ...and when i turned off the ignition..and was just getting out...i heard a hissing noise...went to the back of the bus...and noticed water dripping down the back from somewhere...opened the fill up flap and saw that the top up water bottle was full to the top ...ans i carefully unscrewed the cap and all the antifreeze water came pouring out...i must mention that at no time on my journey home did the coolant light come on...so could it be that the camper got too hot cos the fan didn't kick in or could it be a fuse or a blockage i wonder ?

Yep I used to have an MG that did the same thing.

When you turn the engine off the water stops circulating, hence the water next to the bores etc gets VERY hot and can boil.

Answer Just leave your engine ticking over for a few minutes.

BY the Way Ive got a T4 with a 2.4 diesel engine and the ONLY time the fan cuts in is when I stop the beast and turn the engine off.

I know exactly what the problem is. Some fool put the engine in the boot.

Seriously though, I'd drain and flush the whole system, which should cure any blockages and alleviate any air locks that may be in the system. Remember, it's a long way from the radiator to the engine on these things.

Hi, it could be something more serious, (but I hope not), but the best bet is the thermostat sticking closed, as we've just been through a cold spell, VW's run quite cold and if the thermostat hasn't opened for a while this can happen, that said if you are getting warmth from the heater, it's probably not the thermo.

Other causes could be; faulty rad cap, blown head gasket, cracked head (have you got antifreeze in it?) or an air lock (not likely unless you've recently emptied and re-filled the system)

Cooling problems are always a pain, you just have to go through the cheapest options first and work your way up til you find the answer.
