I believe the warning on taking cats camping is that cats are territorial creatures, and yours may be invading another cats area, which is why it's advisable to keep them on an extending lead if you let them out, so they don't get spooked and run off. We have seen loads of cats with their owners on campsites. At Annecy, the Dutch couple next to us had a cat, we had a dog, and they used to stare at each other under the campervan. The cat was on a lead just long enough to reach the boundary of our pitches. Our dog's was therefore somewhat shorter!!
