Hi Steve, been to the Belfast Caravan and camping show today and was in a Roller team 600. I was impressed with the price compared to other makes. Seemed very well equipped and good strong GRP walls.

Is the 600G the layout you want? I preferred the 600 with the U shaped rear lounge. Hopefully someone with more knowledge or who actually owns one will post but I give it a thumbs up.

Paul

Why?

To be honest I think the most important thing is to be sure that the layout is the one that best suits you, secondly be sure that the manufactrer is a reputable one, and then finaly ensure you are happy with the base vechile. It;s no coincidence that the pug and fiat are the most popular vans used in conversions. With the milage that MHs do it's any base vechile is likely to last you way past your years of using it. My inlaws have a ford base and I know it's personal choice and all but I find it quite horrid when compared to the new ducato.

As regard the layout, be sure it's for you. When buying a MH you spend all yourtime in it realising what you want in the next one you buy. It's an expensive mistake if you end up buying a MH based on the base, only to find that it's flawed in the usefulness department. I was looking at the partiular van you mention on the website at a dealer whom has several flood damaged brand new ones for sale. Lots of talk about these on other forums. I was looking merely out of interest.

As for the converter I have one of the same but badged under a different name. Decent enough manufacturers, budget built but no problems with the build quality.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I think your somewhat missing the point though steve. If I was running a courier service yes I probably would not choose the fiat, (neither would i choose the ford) I would probably go for the merc but your not gonna expect your MH to be doing 150k miles in a couple of years.

Hi Steve

I, having looked at Roller Team 600G and many, many others ended up with a Rimor Superbrigg with the garage.

The Roller team is good value for money but as panagah stated so is the CI 5 which I test drove and was very impressed with including the Fiat Chassis.

I am not sure what you are needing/using the garage for but if its payload you need, which I had to consider to accomodate my sons motorsport hobby, the Superbrigg fitted the bill better than anything else in the market place because of its garage size and payload ability. As it turns out the MH itself is very comfortable and very well equipped indeed.

As for chassis cabs my superbrigg is on the Transit double wheel base 2.4, 6 speed box and its absolutely brilliant. It pulls through every gear with imressive torque even when the MH is absolutely full to the gunnells. I really am impressed with it. The only other thing  I would add is, the drivers cab on the new Transit as you will know is kitted out almost exactly the same as the Mondeo and therfore makes the drive just like a car and very pleasing, with the cab comfort and the power you honestly forget just how big the MH is behind you at times until you look in the mirror.

All the best and I hope you find the what you are looking for - all the best

I must of misread your original post then. Your post was you wanted to know if your choice of MH was a good choice or not? When people talk about choice of motorhome most people on here would be talking about the model of the motrohome. ie your 600g choice. If you would of worded your request to prefered base model then that would of been something of a different question would it not?

If for example your question related to an autotrail cheyene V an autosleeper then that's what you would of got comparisson between the two.

It sounds like you are seriously saying that you would choose any motorome built over that of a motrohome on a fiat peaugot base.  Just surfice to say in your missing the point answer it would be mine and manyothers opinion to get the coacbuilt right first and follow that up by your preference of base

Sorry just came accross this thread that might help.

 http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=10368&start=1

This is discussing the alleged problem of the fiat/citroen/peaugot 6 speed box. These guys really know there stuff.

Read through the  thread and you will see that the current crop of transits share the design development and manufacture base of the fiat/citroen/pug vans. This is the word we live in now. Looked under the bonnet of Mitsubishi to find it shared the same engine with a Volvo!

Although I would not disagree with you regarding the inability of fiat/pug dealers to service and maintain a vechile properly.

Hi,

I have a 10 year old Italian van, it's survived us and the three kids for many years, we bought it based mainly on it's overall length so it fits on the drive, but also as it's fairly short it's easier to park.

Build quality of new ones are even better, and the spec is much higher than older ones, so you shouldn't go far wrong.

Check the payload is ok for you, and be very sure the layout is right for you, and the vehicle size is what you want. Then buy one and enjoy it.

Good luck

Mike
