I have a new model Peugeot based m/home and would like to fit a swivel base to the passenger seat. Because of the layout of our van the seat will probably not turn completely around but I can live with that. Will the seat clear the passenger door ok as it looks tight. Obviously all Peugeots/Fiats have the same seats up front so has anyone fitted a swivel themselves to a peugeot/fiat and was there any problems?

Or has anyone got an Autoquest 130 with swivel seats?

Many thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

Although our base vehicle is not a Peugeot (it's a Fiat), we had swivel seats fitted to both our driver and passenger seats.  I was very concerned initially, that they would not turn, more so with the drivers, as although there is nothing directly behind the passenger door as that's where the habitation door is, the dinette area and therefore the back of the dinette seat, was directly behind the drivers seat.  Initially the dealer was reluctant to fit a swivel seat on the drivers side, as he said it wasn't worth it, but since we pressed for it, we both agree that it has to be the best decision ever made.  The seat only turns a quarter to the left, (it would go further but would be tight with knees against the bulkhead), but in this position, the seat can be used rather than being 'wasted' other than to store things on.  Ours is a 6 berth van, and all 6 seats can now be used.  Having the swivels fitted was the best thing we had done on our vehicle.  It goes to show that they don't have to be able to swivel all the way to be brought into use.  There is plenty of room to use our drivers seat with lots of leg room between it and the passenger seat.  It does help that our hand brake is on the right of the drivers seat and the gear lever on the dashboard, so nothing on the floor to trip over.

Swivel seat bases (at least ours) slide back and forth on the runners, regardless of where they are on the turning circle, so if you find the back of the seat hits the door or the dashboard, just shift it back or forward and continue turning it.  Once turned round, slide them back as far as they will go against the dashboard (or drivers door in the case of our driver seat) to give as much legroom as possible.

Our passenger seat swivels right round to face the opposite way (and assuming they are fitted correctly - I've seen some that haven't been), they should turn in towards the centre of the vehicle, not out towards the door, unless they are fitted to aid entry to the cab by a disabled person.  My passenger seat was fitted to help me get into the cab, but this is easier for me via the back habitation door, then by swiveling the seat round to face forwards.

One thing to consider is that the platform base for the swivel does make the seat higher by a couple of inches.

Another point is that once the swivels are fitted, the ends of the runners can be rather sharp, so stick something over them like a strip of foam to avoid grazing legs etc.

Hope this helps.

Sara

We didn't pay for ours, they were included in with the deal of selling our old Motorhome and getting the new one, so I've no idea how much they cost.

We have a swivel base on the passenger seat of our Fiat motorhome.  It does make the seat higher and means that I'm looking partly through the top of the windscreen where the window wipers don't reach which can be a bit annoying.  Does make the seat useable tho and when turned makes the habitation area seem bigger, often have it with the back to the door so that it gives more light and a clear view through the front window.

Hi Paul, I fitted a new swivel seat base to my fiat ducato yesterday.

They are available from a few locations.

Olearys, and outdoorbits sell them. If its a pre06 then it will be £86 for either a MAPA or FASP. Mine fits and the front seat swivels all the way for me to look out the back window. Its created loads of room.

As for fitting it yourself? well I managed it but in all honesty it,s a nightmare job on some MHs or as simple as an unbolt rebolt job on others. I am going to update my BLOG to include what I had to do in more detail but heres a clue.

I had to saw bits off the runners, I had to drill holes in the runners, I had to modify the actual seat swivel. To do it again now would take me a couple of hours tops. However to do it at the time took me nearly 3/4 of a day and phone calls to the suppliers due to me being convinced (wrongly) that the swivel was the wrong one. They are made to fit all ducato/boxer vans and therefore vary greatly.

|If I can be any further help let me know.

Hi folks, thanks for the replies. That has put my mind at ease a bit apart from the fitting. Was hoping to do it myself if it is a simple job. I have seen them for around £85-90 + p+p.

Sara I would be happy if they only swivelled 1/4 turn to face each other. that means w could sit and put our feet up.

Panagah, I look forward to reading your blog and getting a few tips

Thanks

Paul

Hi paul this is the video I used  http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Ace68J3oknM

good video and just about correct although mine needed a little more. However don't be put off as I said some are simple to fit mine was just a bugger.

It is not beyond the realms of anyone even slightly decent at DIY or BAH (bdgit and hopit)

HI,

I've just posted about the same thing, only we seem jjinxed. Our first swivel base attempted purchase ended with us basically being robbed by some cowboy (there is a post about him somewhere on here) and now we've tried Reimo an dthey two seem suddenly to not exist. At least we haven't lost any cash this time.

Would like to hear how you get on finding a base.

Hi, O'Learys have your particular model for sale. I looked on e-bay and have seen some for sale. Haven't ordered yet as her indoors has had me doing " other important jobs" around the house!!

Hi folks, got my swivel base during the week but this has turned into a bit of a disaster. On removing the bolts I managed to damage the heads on two of them. So had to resort to cutting a slot on the heads and eventually managed to tap them round with hammer and screwdriver to loosen them.

So I was ready to fit the swivel plate this afternoon and offered it up to the holes and guess what. They have went and sent me the wrong base. They sent the pre 06 model one. Its obvious to me now looking at the pictures as they are totally different.

I bought it from Caravan Stuff 4U Ltd. on E-bay. Anyone dealt with them. I have no phone number for them and its too late now anyway, so will have to send them an e-mail and await a reply. Does anyone live in the Worcestershire area and have a phone directory for the area. I would like to phone them first thing Monday morning.

Not happy

Paul

Hi, just to say I got the proper base delivered this afternoon (tues) and guess what? It simply bolted straight on without any drilling at all. It swivels almost to face the rear of the van and will make a big difference for us.

I'm a happy camper

Paul
