Hi everyone.  Does anyone know where I can source a reconditioned engine for my 1994 Peugeot J5 Express motorhome (left hand drive).  Having just gotten over a major ceiling problem I now have this.

The current engine fitted to it has the following numbers on it

IGJ       14054636        U25/673        PTC

Does anyone know what these refer to and what I should be using to find a compatible engine?

I am in Salisbury.  In essence my van is in bits (the engine that is) in a garage.  Water was coming out of the exhaust and there was loads of steam.  It was in the garage for a service and MOT which it got, however my problems occurred later that night.  I took it back to the garage, they first thought it maybe a head gasket.  They stripped the head off the engine but the gasket looked in reasonable condition.  The garage thinks the head maybe cracked and have suggested I source a reconditioed engine as all they can really do is skim the head and fit a new gasket for around the £600 mark and there is no guaremtee that will work.  The garage says I could pick up a recon engine for around the same price with some sort of warrenty.

Any help - pointers??  I cant use the van as it is so am stuck between a rock and hard place.

Up here in crewe we have Crewe engineering. They will take out your engine and replace it with a recon one. They will then of course recon your old one ready for the next person with a problem. There must be im sure similar places near to you.

http://www.creweengines.co.uk/index.asp

perhaps give them a call and ask, knowlegable friendly people.

or you could try these http://www.zebeng.co.uk/zebedee_engineering_services.html

however |I think they are likely to do a recon job on yours.

or these http://www.findanengine.co.uk/
