Does anyone know whether the Nomad awning could be fitted to the rear of a Duetto or would it be difficult to accommodate the opening doors rather than the side sliding door, or of any other make of awning. All awnings seem to be shown attached to the side of a van, but my OH seems to think it would be more convenient at the rear end!

Hi Ernie..still lookin' then..?

I'm not sure what age/model of Transit your Duetto is base on but with our '03 model, when the rear doors are open, they are higher than the top, rear edge of the van..This would be a problem...

To be honest, when stopping for just a night or two,we,ve found that we rarely put our awning(s) up! ..Infact I'm starting to think I may've wasted my money..

(I'm beginning to think about a roll-out awing ...at least we may use it!)

Hi Pepe, you remembered me then!!

I sort of hibernated for a while with other things on my mind, until 'er indoors' started rethinking things when I thought it was all decided what we were going to buy. I'm sort of thinking along the same lines as you. Our Duetto is 1997 and with limited space, I don't want to be carrying anything unnecessary that we may not use.

The gutter is about 21/2-3ins above the rear doors so any awning would have to be at that height to avoid chafing the tops of the doors. I'd really have to see something sutable before buying, and the OH would have to see it too!!

Hi Ernie

I suppose it may be a case of just keeping your eye out,as to what other folk have fitted on a similar vans...

I think we dived in to soon, when we bought ours..not that there is anything wrong with the awnings themselves, its just that as we've only recently moved away from camping with tents, the last thing we really want to be doing is wrestling with "canvas" again!

...up until now,all they've done is take up valuable locker space!

Anyway goodluck with your search!

By the by, to line up your campervan with the drive away awning for your return, before you leave, place a white rope on the ground just touching the rear and front wheels and peg it in that position. Then hammer in a white peg at the centre point of the front tyre.

When you return to your awning, even in the dark, by leaning out of the drivers door and moving slowly, you can line up your tyres along the rope and stop exactly at the white peg.

This worked every time for us.

we only want something basic which to keep chairs and a table and bits and bobs and to secure our ptich.

any advice welcome but would rather not spend a fortune

The handy tent from Argos (on special offer at the mo) should suit!

I have a movelite stand alone awning for long stays, but I also thought a Gelert 2 minute tent would suit for shorter stays.

handy tent

gelert 2 min tent
