I am toying with the idea of fitting a scooter rack to the back of my m/home, (H reg Swift Capri on Ducato chassis). There is a towbar fitted on a frame bolted to the chassis, I'm just a little concerned about the weight issue. Has any one any advice please?

I made one to fit to the back of my Bedford Pioneer campervan. It was only to carry a 90cc Honda.

What you can carry depends very much on the weight of the scooter and rack and the distance it will sit from the rear axle.

The amount of chassis (including the rack) cannot be anymore than half the distance between the front and the rear axles.

If your scooter is more weight than a 90cc Honda, perhaps you would be better with a scooter trailer.

Here is one at £120 and I doubt if you could build a rack for that price.

Hi,

We bought a scooter rack for our CI Riviera 171. It fits on the towbar. We carried a Peugoet Elysee Scooter and had no problems except that I was too out of touch with riding a scooter. Both are in my garage and the scooter has only done about 15 miles in the 6 years we have it from new.

So if you are fit enough to ride a scooter, I think it is a good option and better than towing a car or being stuck on a campsite. We have taken the easier option and bought a Bongo and drive away annex for more freedom But not the same comfort unfortunately!

If you are after a decent scooter rack then i may have the answer, mine, it was purchased from PWS of Poole/Dorset, and its absolutely the strongest/over engineered on the market, it attaches to the bolts of the towball and thats it, i have taken my Honda scooter all round Europe on it with no problems whatsoever, if you wish, send me your email and i will send you some photos of it. Or email me f.cimmino at btinternet.com   cheers  must find another bottle!!
