Hi,

We have been camping this weekend and because ground is wet our motorhome got stuck. Rather than wait for a farmer or help, a friend recommended we buy a winch. Our motorhome is a 4 berth swift sundance coachbuilt. Does anyone know or could recommend which type of winch would be suitable? If you have any other recomendations please let us know.

Got stuck once.  I carry a tow rope and a 4X4 pulled me out.

Other carry mats or the bottom of bread trays to put under the wheels

In the middle of a field, where do you attach the other end of a winch?

We are looking to buy something that will definately work and is strong enough to pull our van. It would be great if you could have a look and advise us of what sort of price we should be paying, as we are clueless on this subject.

How do they attach to your van?

All you need is 3 bread baskets (pick them up from mobile berger units who don't return them) or any bakery willing to give them to you. cut off the sides cut them in half and join the three strips together with ties. carry them in  the under lockers of your motor home and they work a treat. no problems getting off any boggy site.

I got my works van stuck last year on a grass verge, I spread a dust sheet under the front wheels and it drove straight out. Made a mess of the dust sheet though.

We use the cheap rubber mesh door mats from Wilkos, as Jax 365 says.  Park on them if on grass and it is likely to rain or the ground looks iffy. We  then drive off by placing one infront of the other and moving slowly forward.  Got stuck once and no intention of doing it again.

You could try www.pwsacc.co.uk they do various winches for m/home use, but I think the price, & extra batteries needed for any winch powerful enough for what you'd need, it would be easier with the bread tray job. I also carry a couple of hessian sacks, they work well.

Why don't you walk the ground you're gonna park on first, anything dodgy with your size 10s should avoid a tow out.
