Hi, We've got a '71 VW with a cavity drain so the figure of 8 should fit our Nomad 3 awning straight on.  Its useless! It sits loosely onto the vans gutter but the slightest breath of wind whips it straight off.  I can't see that theres much to re-arrange/

Does anyone else have this problem?  We've got Glastonbury soon and I'd rather avoid the inevitable rain!

Cheers

Scunny

My VeeDub awning had a sleeve into which a short pole slid it had rubber ferrules on either end and that rested in the gutter, it was then hel in place by 2 simple G clamps and a peice of vinyl on each clamp to protect the paint. I'm sory for lack of detail I have forgotten the make of awning. But its something yo may be able to jury rig.

Hi Scunny, with awning for VW there are 2 ways to fix them usually. One is the figure of 8 and the other is with a pole inserted into awning fixed to guttering with clamps. We have used the pole and clamp and this doesn't come off although whatever awning you use you cannot get it completely taut so rain tends to gather on the roof bit.  Just Kampers (www.justkampers.com) sell the clamps and I'm sure finding a suitable pole wouldn't be difficult.  The other thing is could you have a too wide piece of figure of 8? I don't know if they come in diffrent widths but Just Kampers also sells this to fit on VWs.

We survived Glastonbury in the rain last year in our 73 VW bay. Believe me getting the awning fixed to your van will be the least of your worries if it rains as hard this year!!!!  Enjoy :)

The problem with fig 8 strips is that the tunnel linking to the van has to be quite tight/taught otherwise it just blows off as you have found, as stated above the pole and clamp is more secure and just as quick to fix once your used to it and is more forgiving in the wind.

Cheers for the input guys, much appreciated.  I think you've naikled it Andy - the aswning wasn't pulled tightly enuf.  I'll give that a go and if it fails I'll try the pole and clamps.

Morkie - we're well used to the wet and mud at Glasters - this year will be slightly different however, 'cos it'll be a first for our nine month year old daughter!

thanks again

I use the pole and clamps provided with our JK Spacemaker 2007, never comes away regardless of the weight of water on top or the wind blowing through, there's three clamps to secure, one each end and one in the middle, just take care to keep the clamp vertical so it doesn't brush against the doors whilst closing
