we are feeling brave this year ! gonna take our nice hymer camp 56 down to the south of france, just for peace of mind i want to invest in some recovery so if the worse happens we can get the old girl home.
most places i have tried are not interested because of the age (it's a 1989 model)
can anybody on here gime me some suggestions please.
If you are over 50 Saga motorhome breakdown insurance has no vehicle age limit, also try Adrian Flux.
But breakdown/recovery insurance is not an automatic ticket home for your vehicle, they will only transport it home----If the vehicle cannot be repaired locally in a reasonable time---I guess you will have a Peugeot/Fiat base vehicle, no problems getting them repaired in France.
So--Scenario--major breakdown in the south of France--gearbox gone-your free tow will be just as far as the nearest Peugeot or Fiat main dealers, which wont be far away & you will have to pay whatever rip off price they quote you to get mobile again.
If the van will take a while to fix & you tell your insurance you need to get home, they will fly you home & back again later to collect it which would be cheaper for them than transporting the van home.
Ok you might be lucky & convince them to bring the van home but the further away you are from Northern France the less likely.
------------- Sell my camper? I'd rather eat school semolina!
Recovery insurance? Red Pennant thru the Caravan Club: It costs but delivers what they claim of it. I have tried others and have been less than impressed - still have a claim outstanding from last year.
