Hi

In a couple of weeks we want to go to Brothers water to sykeside camping, and its a few years since we've been over kirkstone pass in the car and remember thinking I wouldn't want to go over with our trailer tent on the back, now we've got a motorhome and was woundering if anybody has been over there recently and was it anything to worry about, our van is 7ft7in wide, she's got a lot of pull so not worried about that, just the width.

We can go up to penrith and get to it that way, but my OH is bound to want to go over the pass as its a lot shorter but I know i'll be worrying.

Im hoping your all going to say it wont be a problem and i'll be able to relax, but if you think its a bit tight, then ill be able to say we need to go the other way, cos you lot said so!!!!    and you lot know better than he does

We stayed at the CC site in Bowness last year, on our way to Scotland from Cornwall.  We were advised by the on site wardens NOT to take the Kirstone Pass in our motorhome!!!!  We were gutted because we wanted to call in at Glenridding as we'd stayed there in a cottage some while back.

Are there sheer drops on either side of this road? I could cope with steep hills but not high drops, like cliffy roads.

I am interested because I would like to go to lakes but don't like driving over roads with sheer edges.

Been up there for a few fell races Fiona. Road is undeniably steep & bendy, because of this traffic travels pretty slowly & with plenty of consideration of what they may be likely to meet.

No horrible drops at the side.

Should be a breeze for you. 

Thanks everyone, I feel much better now, we will give it a go, if a bus can do it we should be ok, I wouldn't attempt Hardnott It took my OH and son hours to push there bikes up, my son thought it would be a nice cycle on a tarmac road, I tried to tell him he must be mad,  it would be hard work!!!!!!!    you should have seen him when he got back down to Eskdale, they had to walk back down some bits as the brakes wheren't stopping them.  I had to have a  little chuckle and told him he should listern to him mum, not be a teenager who thinks he knows it all!!
