Hi, just found out that my poor old van has the dreaded damp problem. The damp seems to be around the front window only and looks as though it was via the rubber seal.I am a reasonable DIYer and was wondering if this was a task I could take on as I think a proffesional repair would just not be cost effective any advice or information would be greatlyappreciated.
I had a prob with a leaky seal on a side window not long ago. I just got a small tube of sealer from my local car accessory shop and kept putting it on until it stopped leaking. First I had someone spray with a hosepipe so I could see whereabouts it was coming in. And I put the stuff on inside and out.
It might just be condensation... see if there's a leak first. If condensation, you may need something to help prevent it forming. I have cheap windscreen covers (silver sort of bubble wrap with suckers) from Wilkinsons £2.99 and they do the job well.
Have a search on here for 'leaking window' or something similar, several ppl helped me to do the job well.
If the van is old it is possible there is rust under the rubber. Try sealing it first if you want but the cure will be removal of the windsreen & cleaning off rust, priming & painting, if you are unlucky enough to have it rusted right thru you should be able to repair with P40 Isopon if the rust aint too bad.
Not a difficult diy job, If the screen rubber looks perished, replace it.
