Don't really know anywhere around Colwyn Bay by the sea but you could ask on WILDCAMPING there is a place listed for Talacre. Many years agao we have parked on the front at Colwyn Bay but I think they have signs for no overnight parking.
Yes just head down on the prom. If you head towards Old Colwyn along the prom you will find large spaces for parking and the sea is right besides you. Beware though when its very windy, a lot of pebbles get thrown up by the waves. Great to watch though
Personally, I wouldn't wild camp anywhere near Colwyn Bay these days. They are having terrible trouble with drug related offences around there. I read in the paper last year that ppl were afraid to go out at night and I don't suppose that's got any better.
It all stems back to when Colwyn was a lovely seaside resort, full of B&B's. When ppl started going abroad, the B&B's were converted into flats by private landlords and a lot of young druggies moved there from inland as they thought they might as well be by the seaside and on the dole, instead of inland on the dole. Well that's how it was explained to me and it's happened in a lot of little villages along the N.Wales coast.
Now, it might be that you'd be safer in Old Colwyn, or a bit further down the road, but from what I hear it's not a safe place.
Sorry totally disagree. Colwyn bay like many areas has its problems, but not to the extent that I wouldn’t go out in the evenings! Regardless of what you have read! I moved to Old Colwyn from Manchester few years ago and wouldn’t move back. Colwyn Bay is my nearest shopping area where you will find many families and couples regularly visit.
The summer months brings lots of visitors that return year after year. The prom is lovely to park along and maybe walk to Old Colwyn or to Rhos on sea. The wide sandy beaches are used by families having restricted areas for dog walking.
I understand the fear you must have, having read it in the papers!!! Please understand as I have, that incidents that happen here are reported in the local paper immediately, whereas incidents happening in larger communities is gone unpublished as it is a frequent occurrence.
No I don’t work for the tourist board in case you was wondering. I merely suggest you should try and see the area yourself as I do on a daily basis.
Oh Kazy, I'm glad to hear that! You read such things in the paper - it was The Mail I think. I have friends who live near Bangor and they said the coastal villages were a bit unsafe. I'm really glad that someone local to the area has put the record straight!
Thanks everyone for you reply.
We did end up staying in Colwyn Bay Friday and Saturday (cost nothing) and it was fantastic. Went fishing and cooked it!!!Lovely. There were no problems at all and we loved it.
Went to Conway though on the Sunday and a coach got itself stuck in the arch and caused mayhem so we had to parked next to the castle, in the small print on the board no campervans and picked a bloody £70.00 parking ticket took photos and I will dispute it. We were parked well within the bay allocated, oh and we parked next to a builders 4x4 with a trunk full of bricks, the board said no commercial vehicles!! And he'd didn't get a ticket!! Liberty!!
JOnty
have been at the bay many times just park down the arches end as there are parking restriction right alon the froun to llandudno from rhos on sea will cost you nothing never had any problems there or seen any and have parked there many times for fishing and sleeped over night gone round and come back at night for about three days at a time great place but rough sea are a no no
I live not far from the Bay and agree with Kazy. Its a great place and there are often MH's overnighting on the prom. Never heard any trouble about them.
I would deffinately keep away from Llandullas beach though. Rather famous for dogging and other things!!!!!
Johnty, bit of a bugger about the parking ticket, wish they would leave us alone, the councils dont realise the revenue we bring into areas and as Conwy is mainly a tourist town you would think they would welcolme ALL types of tourism.
I Live in old colwyn myself and colwyn bay has its fair share of losers and druggies like anywhere else but the promenade is safe as houses and a nice place to be, Especially in the morning for a quiet walk along the prom! would park there myself but only live up the road
