Hi we have a MH and as yet haven't towed a car, but I can see why some folk do and certainly wouldn't critise anyone who chose to do so...........having had a caravan myself I can understand why 'some' feel you may as well have a car and caravan, but now I have a MH I know there is a huge difference and I think to see that you actually have to have sat on both sides of the fence so to speak to realise that difference.
This is a copy of a post I have just posted on the caravan forum of the website....................
we changed to a MH at the end of last year after owning a lovely twin axle caravan, I think there is a big difference between the two hobbies and having sat on both sides of the fence so to speak, can see both sides.
But for us personally the MH has opened up a whole new world for us including travelling through France stopping off when and where we wanted, on into Northern Spain for a weekend, a month in Portugal taking our MH into the countryside and up and down mountains, another day by the beach etc etc at 23 foot we certainly don't class the MH has being tiny or cramped and love being in it sometimes more than being in the house LOL, (and one advantage that I never thought about until we had it was the spinning round of the driver and passenger chairs and having a nice reclining armchair in the evening) and yes there is a odd time in this country (more so than abroad) where you can't go into a car park due to barriers, but there is usually somewhere else that you can park...............last week for instance my Husband was able to park near the sand dunes at Great Yarmouth whilst I was shopping in the town, he walked the dogs and then was able to make himself a cuppa and read his paper in comfort until I was ready to be picked up, so he enjoyed his afternoon and I did too (he hates shopping) we also did the same at the gypsy market in Portugal..........he could watch all the hustle bustle without being in it so to speak.
I used to think when I had a caravan that I would never ever have a MH and I also thought that it would take an age to set up inside etc, however now I realise that isn't the case and thats the beauty for us, as someone else once said on here it is our cottage in the country, our villa by the sea, or the scenic restuarant with the best view............last week we spent every night in a different location in Norfolk.
For us personally although yes we have an extra tax and insurance to pay on another vehicle it has actually worked out cheaper as our tow car was expensive to run, so we now have an economical day to day car, and the MH itself seems to go forever on a full tank.
Fortunately I have always found other campers be it tenters, caravanners, Mhs etc once on site to always pass the time of day and be friendly...............whatever you do enjoy it I feel extremely lucky to be able to do what we do, we used to go on package holidays but now the thought of that instead of taking our MH abroad would fill me with dread, as the MH has just given us so much freedom.
