I've recently finished a camper conversion on a VW transporter.  Do i now need to re-classify the vehicle as a camper with the DVLA or is this unecessary.

Hi Oz

        About five years ago I converted a Mazda I changed my log book to campervan sent it of, no problems what so ever. Recently I bought a Jap import Toyota Hiace which I noticed was classified as a van. I changed the details to motorhome sent it of had a reply and now I have had to sent photographs and they want receipts if I have them for any work that was done. So now I waiting to see what happens.

I converted a van recently, you need to get the van reclassified as a motorhome especially if you have insured it as a motorhome/camper. You need to send some pictures with at least one showing the number plate & any receipts you have. In my case I only had a couple of receipts but that wasn't any problem. There are certain things they usually require such as a bed of at least 6 foot, cooking facilities, water supply & seating. It is mainly to stop people sticking a airbed & camping cooker then trying to call it a motorhome. If you ring the DVLA they are usually very helpful.

Not only that when you take it for the mot you will have detail at the mot station stating they have a motorhome/ camper for mot but dvla swansea still think it is a van and with computerisation this can cause problems.
