yes you will get a decent one quite easily but it depends on what you want in it. how many of you are there? do you want a full bathroom with shower or just a porta potti? bed available or one you have to make up?etc

a rock and roll bed is basically a bed that folds out from a sofa abit like a sofa bed at home. these are usually found in vw's and the like.

A Zig unit supplies a 12 volt supply when connected to the mains to run your 12volt lights, pump etc, and it also charges the leisure battery for when you have no mains hook up available.

give us some idea of what you want in it and we will come up with some ideas for you

Another option, and worth considering, is to build your own. Its not as difficult as you might think. I have been "doing" my own vans now for 30 + years. Have a look at the Gallery on www.sbmcc.co.uk and you'll see what I mean

If i was in your position I would be looking at a hymer you will get a fully loaded job for your budget and you wont regret it.

That,s only my opinion and its what i will be buying next but i will go to germany for it and drive it back home.

Just so you can see pics of various motorhomes have a look at ebay because there are pics of outside and inside of motorhomes then you can decide the type best suited to your needs . Then you can have some real fun looking at motorhomes in various dealers etc.

Good luck and i hope you find and get what you are looking for. Let us all know ho you get on.

First off I'd make myself a list of requirements...

(number of berths/is a washroom needed/will vehicle need to be used  day to day etc)

Do you want a vehicle which can be used comfortably without having to erect an awning?..if so,then VWs and Bongos may be out...

We've only had our van (Transit,Duetto)10months or so and already that can feel a little cramped at times(..and that still has floor space when the beds are made up!)..

Perhaps rather than just going out a spending all your £15000 in one go,maybe try hireing a couple of different "types" of MH for a week,to see how they "fit"!

Unfortunately £15,000  doesn't buy an great deal on a lot of UK dealers' forecourts!

You'll find a great deal of rusty bodywork and tatty interiors in that price range..

If I had've been "brave enough",I would've looked at buying private...

Anyway,it's fun looking..

Goodluck

There is some good info here

http://www.com/vehicles/basics_choosing_first.htm

The main things i would suggest you think about are how many belted seats you will need, what cooking/toilet facilities, would you be happy with a smaller van plus an awning or prefare to be fully contained in the van. are you likely to have a few long trips away or many weekend breaks. we have a van conversion which is great for two, but not sure we could do say 6 months away. longest trip is 3 weeks and it was fine.

Hi Col S

There is a lot of good advice above but regarding the self build idea I would really only consider this if you are good with DIY, have lots of patience and know what you are wanting.  Look at eBay and all the unfinished projects for sale.

I would visit a dealer and look round them all even those out of your price range just to see what you need.

We have had 2 Duettos and manage for space well just by limiting what we carry.

There are loads of motorhome dealer websites to check prices.

Good luck

I'd try hiring one before you jump in, we're buying a campervan after years of tenting and spent 2 weekends in one before we decided what we wanted.

If you switch to a motorhome, have you considered your need for transport once it is parked on a pitch? Bike, scooter or tow a car or feet and buses?

Or do you intend buying one small enough to access
car parks and narrow roads? If so you need to pack everything away each time you wish to drive off.

We spent years on these problems.

The perfect answer we found was a folding camper so we had an economical car to travel in and tow it with and it carried the load and could be set up giving space and luxury and left.
