Good afternoon all

I am seeking technical assistance for a battery charging problem. The scenario is: No problem when i start the engine, as the alternator charges the 12v battery. however, when connected to an external 240v source through the van's electrical cct there is no charge going into the leisure battery. I am unable to physically 'see' a battery charger and can only assume that the 'electrobloc' is also some form of battery charger. The are no blown fuses, and all wiring appears to be connected. Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Paul+Vanessa, that sounds very much like a problem i had on my Rapido about 3 years ago, the camper was fitted with an electronic sort of box not bigger than  a large packet of cigarettes, my friend who has retired  from the AA, after 36 years service, was baffled re. engine on, no probs, the firdge was working fine, on mains everyting worked, re, the lights,the fridge but as yours the leisure battery  was not getting any feed from the little block and as its a solid state item one cannot open it to see whats wrong, in the end i rang Brownhills and ordered one, not cheap just under  £100, but after that everything was ok.Hope this has helped somewhat, or someone else on here may have some other ideas?

Thanks  Wineciccio. Your reply is appreciated. The Electrobloc is a power supply/inverter/battery charger. The output from this unit then trickle charges the battery as required. I would expect the cost of a new electrobloc to run into three figures, therefore i expect i will wire in a standard 240v battery charger and when we arrive on site & plug in to the 240v, plug the charger in too. Oh .... and not smoke whilst the battery is charging!

Brings back memories of being at sea 15 years ago on a diesel powered submarine. When we were submerged, batteries provided our propulsion. To charge we either surfaced or snorkled. Batteries gassed at a certain sg and 'No Smoking' was enforced!

Is it a Schaudt Electrobloc? I had one in my Frankia & I emailed them for information. They replied almost straight away & were really efficient & helpful. There email address is on their website at SCHAUDT
They sent me a PDF manual for the model I had.

Hi Paul

This might be a bit obvious, i had a b584  the electrobloc being mounted in a unit on the passenger side used to get hot and the overload would trip on mine the reset was a small red button on the left side of the unit, as i say a bit obvious but these are often the things we may miss.

I know it sounds straight forward, but on the previous MH (Rapido) had a similiar sort of set up, there was a push switch to turn it on and off, mainly when using the inverter so that it did not try to recharge it self - but if you had a guy look at it I doubt it would be that straight forward

Pleased to say that the problem has been solved. Partly due to my laziness I didnt unbolt the drivers seat and remove the Electro Bloc! On inspection there is a 1.7A fuse on the 12v output of the transformer. Replaced this and hey presto.

Thanks for everybodies input, peace & quiet now from my lady as we dont need to start the engine to shower, wash up & flush!
