I have a 1982 Merc based imported Hymer (B544 I think). I'm having some problems with the leisure battery not charging. I've got power across the split charge relay so I am at a loss why the battery would be completely discharged. The battery is a brand new 110A battery from Johns Cross in Sussex.
One thing I dont understand is what the battery switches on the Hymer control panel do and whether the 'Batterie' switch (which has the settings 0, I and II) has any relevance to battery charging? (Switching between I and II gives me an indication of voltage from the respective battery) Any ancient Hymer owners out there can help me?
if you only hvae one leisure battery, then the 0 would probably indicate not showing either the leisure (I) or the cab (II) battery. That would appear to be the most common thing. Are you sure the new leisure battery has not colapsed and is not holding charge. You might be very unlucky and have one that is dud. The battery can be charging but not holding anything. Alternativly you have a very heavy drain on the battery.
Pretty sure the battery is good as I've now recharged it with a mains charger.
Yep I agree 0, I and II correspond to the batteries with 'I' as the starter battery, I'm just starting to suspect that this switch also controls which battery to charge as I have always left it in the '0' position thinking it was only there to indicate the charge in the battery.
