Sorry, yet another Fiamma F45ti awning question.....

We've only had ours fitted a few months and I'm  now thinking of adding a front "Blocker" and maybe some side panels...

It is concerning  these side panels that I have a question...

In their catalogue they show, what they refer to as their "Clip System". (..this clip system seems to be a two part rail..which locates into both the awning box and the front rail and when tightened, "sandwiches" the awning fabric, with the upper part having an awning "slot").

I like the idea of these rails,as they would stiffen up the raw, flappy edge of the awning no end!

However, is this "Clip System" only compatable with the complete "Privacy Room" end panels?

(I can't seem to find this "Clip System" on their website.. I can only see the telescopic tubes method of fixing, which doesn't (seem to)secure the awning fabric..)

Am I getting to two things mixed up?...(Privacy room and Side Pro panels!)...

Any opinions gratefully received...

Hi pepe63, thought you might appreciate someone talking to you.  We have a Fiamma awning but never looked at side or front panels so can't help.  By the mumber of people who've looked at the post seems that help might be limited. Hope you have some joy.

Sometimes a little rain must fall before you reach a rainbow.

The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.

The Clip System is for the Privacy Room side panels and does indeed stop the end of the awning flapping about. Each end has 4 pieces which simply trap the awning material and then the awning is slightly closed to bring it under tension. Works very well.

I have a complete privacy room for sale, sides, front and all the poles, clip system, pegs etc - only used twice. Now got a different van with an Omnistor awing and as is always the case it won't fit!! Anyone interested give me a call 01344 773864

I also have a spare set of Clip System poles - unused. If interested please call

Hi there,

Awnings, a tricky thing. I'm new to this hobby and haven't even got one yet. However I a prefering the option of stand alone awning because we tend to go out and about. My OH would like a Fiamma but I am not convinced and someone told us you can't but them up when it's heavy rain - "would you leave a bed sheet on the washing line?" was the comment by one sales person! And from what you are saying about it flapping about, I'm thinking that must be right - yet everyone seems to have one.

Are they sturdy?

I have a fiamma zip awning. We had the panels etc. When up it did stop the canopy from flapping in the wind some what. However this was replaced by the side panels crashing about. Ive lost count how many times Ive had to gt up in the middle of the night to take all the panels off for fear of being ripped etc. I have just sold all my side panels etc. I have replaced them with the Movelite xl stand alone awning. Although we tour more and rarely stop somewhere more than a couple of nights, we think it will be more usefull for longer stays. The canopy of the fiamma is well worth having to just sit under and eat in nice weather or for extra space for an overnight stop but not to use as say a caravan awning.
hope this helps.

Thanks everyone, for your responses..they're just what I was after!

I've heard quite a few folk now, say how bulky & heavy the Fiamma sides/Privacy room are.. and I think you've all helped make my mind up!...I'll probably just stick with the basic awning(at least that can be just wound in,if the wind picks up!)..

Hi Billys Mum....well, to be honest I don't feel that they're overly sturdy..they're very handy for shade or to be able to sit out in light rain..but I personally wouldn't want to leave one wound out unattened, while I took a walk out for the day..just in case the wind got up/weather changed.Like I said in an early post in a different thread, being quite new to this motorhome lark ourselves,I wish we had waited before we jumped in and started buying awnings left right and centre..With hindsight I would have perhaps of opted for an easy pitch day tent/gazebo of sorts..(..there are some good "domed" gazebos with zip in sides about now as well!)

Fiamma awning areOK in the rain and the wind if you take a few precautions, firstly you can get tie down kits, which include 2 very sturdy pegs, a spring to take up the tension and movement, and also a long strap. As long as you tie it down well you will be OK, also you can get a central support that is bowed, this will stop the water forming in the middle of the awning. Another thing that I do is to put one side down more than the other so there is a natural slop. Last night had one hell of a down pour for several hours (Sunny Switzerland - has turned rainy during the night) this morning out side the MH is dry the awning is still up and there are huge puddles everywhere else.

We had a privacy room on thefirst MH we had, but only used it a coupl eof time, the theory is good but the practise was not fantastic. happy with just the simple wind out strategy.

I have wind blockers from 'Lillypad Leisure' and have found them to be great although we have had to adjust the tie down elastics.  They are very lightweight and easy to erect and the price is pretty reasonable.  Along with them we have ratchet tie downs and 2 x curly spikes(the type you use for clipping your dog lead too) and if put in to the ground at an angle will take some pulling out.  But, be safe and if uncertain of the weather wind in the awning its easier and a lot cheaper than have to replace the whole outfit.

Only put the full monty up ,zip 45,whenever staying for longer than a week as it is a bit of a task but well worth the effort.Never been concerned about ripping and have slept soundly through gales at Normans Cross and it does blow there. 45 kilos sounds a bit excessive weight wise as my sides and front fold up into a suitcase and are stowed in the above cab bed and i could never lift that weight up there.
