Hi
Has anyone out there had an engine re-chip which is purported to improve performance/mpg etc? We're thinking of having it done but I've heard that there's a 'diy' version which just plugs in?
Looking for someone in the NW England area who could do the job.

Hi ,
I would try doing a search..I'm sure this has been discussed before...
We thought about it for our 2.4 transit..but we ended up spending the money on weekend away, instead
(..may be different if the vehicle actually feels underpowerd tho')
I'm sure someone in the know will be along soon....

www.wakeupyourcar.com did mine, looks like you have the same MH as me, it's all about torque, torque & more torque, BHP is an added extra, as for more economical well that depends if the wife's driving (lead foot) the thing you will notice instantly is the getup & go. Job takes about 30 mins all software so no warranty seals are broken, expect to pay around £250 mark
If you ring Dave at the Shipley branch, you can work it into a weekend away in the Dales, access for Motorhomes is ample at this site.
Any probs give me a shout

Cheers Mick will look into that. The quote we've had was around the £450 mark so £250 is a big improvement!

Hello, I had my 2.8 jtd fiat chipped at TB Turboboost in Lancaster. It has only been a few weeks and three fillups so far but I am really encouraged by the results. They won't guarantee an increase in MPG but what it does do is to give you much greater bottom end performance. I am in 4th gear at 20MPH and 5th at 30MPH. Up hill and down dale I hardly have to change gear and on my last fill for the first time ever I got 30.2 MPG. The previous 2 fills were at 26mpg and before the chipping I would average about 24MPG. You have to be very gentle with the gas pedal but it does seem good to me. On the other side of the coin, My pal had his Merc Automatic 2.9 (I think) done at the same time and he says that there is no difference at all. He is a very good professional driver so I trust his response. Hope this is of some use, Email me if you want any more detail.
Tony

I saw an article on the TV this morning, it was a clip from the motoring show which isn't top gear.
They fitted a chip, reduced the weight of the car, and it did 2mpg less.

Presumably you have to inform your insurance company that you've chipped the car? And no doubt this increases the premium?
But by how much? Is the saving in mpg more than the insurance hike?

For anyone interested there was quite a bit on the letters page in MMM magazine about it - the mentioned informing your insurance company about it too!
Found a 'DIY' version on the web too which looks to be worth studying...

Ok, I believe you!! Nice spot you're visiting & some good pubs around our area...try Stags Head in Goosnargh village especially if you like cask beers. Food is good too. Food good at Horns Inn and Green Man at Inglewhite where they also have cask on tap.
Enjoy your visit...I'll let you know what we decide to do.
Oh, by the way, do you take a laptop on your travels? I'm looking at the best 'internet on the move' ideas........
