Its the notion that you can only do this in a motorhome I find fascinating.  Its as if people with motorhomes feel that people without motorhomes are somehow not able to spend time with their family and can't possibly imagine how wonderful life is using a motorhome as a mobile beach hut.  As you say different people find different things enjoyable, there is no need to worry about people with caravans being left out.

Personally I hate sitting around on a beach, but love taking the dog for long walks along the beach when the tide is out.

oh deary me i wasnt suggesting any of those things you are saying & it was you who spoke about not wanting to spend time with your elderly relations not me so please dont pick on me i am a nice lady  i think people are only saying what they like about owning a motorhome & i dont think any of us here are anti caravans it was just us talking about our own hobby in the motorhome and campervan forum. i am sure you have just as much fun in your caravan as we all do & anyway i dont think motorhoming would be your cup of tea by the sounds of it. please dont pick on me anymore i am only lickle Nursie x

I could quite happily do touring in a motorhome and one day when its just me and my wife, maybe we will.  At the moment we like to set up a caravan and tour the local area in the car.  That way suits us with taking our daughter and our grandaughter with us.  My wife is a nurse and her hours prevents us from getting away as often as we would like.  She also likes to go riding with our 8 year old daughter and worries about the horses a bit when we are away.

Perhaps if I didn't live by the seaside I would see the attraction of going to the beach in the motorhome.

ok brian well if ever you do buy yourself a motorhome i hope you have lots of fun times in it  yes perhaps you are right about the beach & i suppose like a lot of us we dont always appreciate what is right there on our doorsteps do we but to a lot of people a sandy beach and blue sea is heaven on earth. kiddies just love making sandcastles, crab catching, sea shell hunting & paddling in the pools don't they & I secretly do too but keep that to yourself?  Nursie

I too love just pulling up to a beach side car park and relaxing in my little campervan. I usually have a nice cold orange from my little fridge and if there is a beachside cafe I always use it for an ice cream or something.

As we drive around I often just pull over at a spot with a nice view and make a sandwich for lunch.

I never thought I would be one of those oldies who get out the chairs and go and sit on the beach for an hour or so with a sarnie and cuppa but we do now.

I thank my Mum and Dad for giving me a love of the outdoors and the simple life.

I think the key is to just enjoy whatever it is you have and make the most of your chosen outfit and we just love to go off for the day in our motorhome and like a lot of you have mentioned a day out to the beach, especially when in Europe is a real pleasure.

I think if someone wishes to take their caravan along for days out like we motorhomers do then why ever not and I can't see why they shouldn't do the same as we do if that's what they want to do and It’s whatever takes your fancy as far as I am concerned? Basically it’s up to each individual at the end of the day and as far as I'm aware there’s nothing stopping a caravanner being able to enjoy the same freedom?

Obviously, like we motorhomers - caravanners may also come across certain parking restrictions and whether they are stricter with cars and caravans I have no idea as we have never owned a caravan ourselves so I wouldn’t like to comment on that one but apart from that, I would urge you to just enjoy whatever outfit you have to its maximum and have lots of fun in it and do like we do and use whatever you have whenever you get the opportunity to - after all that’s the whole point of any kind of mobile home on wheels isn’t it?

Happy travels.

Sue
