im looking at buying our first van and ive seen that there are a couple of motorhome auctions near us one at measham and one at nottingham, i was just wondering has anyone ever been to these?? or indeed ever bought from them?
what can i expect from buying a motorhome at auction? just damp ridden rust buckets? and for that matter why would people sell their motorhomes at auction?
if you do buy be very careful of the damp, if going to auction people can put a heater in it to get rid of any damp signs(saying that in this weather it would not take long for it to show). Acidents are another reason why they get shot of at auction. But I guess you could get lucky
Very good point though people go on the premise and indeed it isd a point of law if you dont ask you have not got to be told about certain damage catogories.
DOH that silverwood beat me again
------------- you may be frustrated now but infront of me there is a big incline . yeh it may be slow but it is in front
We went to the auction at measham last year and they had more caravans than motorhomes, we didn't buy anything as the prices didn't appear to be that cheap, as for what vehicles are put into auctions, I would suggest you get every type of vehicle you can imagine so be very careful and make sure you are aware of the current dealer/private sale prices of the items you are interested in as you can often get carried along with the bidding and find yourself paying a lot more than you needed to.
If you check their web site nearer that auction date you should be able to see a list of the vehicles they have on offer, then just check them against motorhome dealer sites or private sales online so you are aware of what they can be purchased for, then if you do take a chance make sure you get a substantial reduction which hopefully will cover you if there are any major problems
Thers no escaping from me now as i've now got tinternet in the Motorhome, so i can keep an eye out on whats going on. Posting this sat on the CC site in Southport, basking in glorious sunshine
well mick if you got tinternet i am going to upgrade to interweb that way i can see the auctions as well , talking of which any luck with your purchase at auction chefgrow.
Please keep us all informed as to what you buy

it was a one off. i imported a bare toyota van LHD & had it converted to a MH by Devon Motorhomes in Co Durham. dealers didn't want to know unless it was for part exch. as i had imported a new MH i didn't want to PX it.
the auctioneers reckoned i would get about £8,000 for it and they were exactly right.
there were all sorts of MHs there. new repos & some old bangers.
I used to work for ADT Auctions, now British Car Auctions and as with any second hand vahicle you take the luck of the draw. A lot of traders part exchanges, some private and some repos.
I got mine on ebay, I had to fly to Scotland and drive it home for the price I paid and the fact she is 1988 I had a good deal.
Good luck, it may be worth going along and having a look, have a chat with some of the 'yard lads' and see what they know.
