hi is the bolt to release the wheel cage under the floor boards/carpeting? Other than that you may have to push the cage up to rlease the teeeth on the holding bracket.

On my Transit, the spare wheel was held in an "A" shaped cage where the legs of the A were hinged and the top of the A rested in a hook on a screw threaded rod.

Using a wrench and socket, you unscrewed the rod until there was enough slack to unhook the A cage from the hook. You then lowered the A cage until the top of the A rested on the ground and you then slid the spare wheel out of the cage.

Hi, there is also a safety claw which is released by first pushing inwards on the handle as above then winding down the wheel

A few years ago We bought a 5 year old Duetto which had never had the spare wheel lowered and it was so stiff and we were glad as this was better than trying to do it in the dark and wet at the roadside (why is always night and raining when you need to change a wheel lol).

My OH lowers the one on our newer Transit regular intervals checking the tyres, greasing the lowering gear.
