Hi All

we have just joined motorhome stopovers - its a web based club which has recruited a range of venues (mostly pubs) who are willing to let motorhomes overnight on their land/carparks.

the cost is 30 a year but stopovers are free (it is expected that you frequent the venue whilst there) - its seems like a jolly good idea to me as it will be a little more secure than wildcamping

we haven't actually stayed anywhere yet but have booked to stop at two places in the next week but my initial communications with the venues have been very good

i will keep you informed but thought other may be interested

Must admit that £30 a year seemed steep for someone making a list of pub stopovers.  Number of stopover sites is very limited and, until you've paid your money, you don't know what exact area they are in so equally don't know whether they'll be of any use of if you're wasting your money.

personally I feel that its not too much - the money goes to the upkeep of the site printing of booklets and promotion.

we are members of cc but with them you still have to pay to use their sites and apart from that privelage you don't get anything else!

I do relize there are lists elsewhere but these are limited and they also charge a site fee

There are plenty of small clubs who could really benefit form getting £30 a year let alone give the money to a company.

Where did they get their information from, one wonders? Surely they wouldn't have got it from the likes of Uk Campsites, SBMCC, Motorhome Facts, Wild Camping  et al? That would be very naughty wouldn't it?

If you read some of the other forums you'll see that the general opinion of the site  is "Nice try but don't hold your breathe because we're not all as green as we are acbbage looking"

the other opinion is unless people bother to give it a try then how is it ever going to work!

i am sure similar comments were made about cc and ccc whenthey first started

there are also other website - such as motorhome facts (which i used to be a member) who charge just for the priveledge of being a forum member! so whats the difference.

i spoke to the guy running the site and yes he has got a way to go yet - there are many bits of the site not opperating how they should but to get it right it takes time AND MONEY - he is trying to acheive something we have been asking for for a long time, so if it costs me the paltry sum of £30 which is less than the cost of half a tank of deisel (approx 250 miles travel) to support someones good idea - I think its worth it!

i am only sorry there are so many short sighted people on this sight who knock others for sharing what may prove to be useful info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that there are probably a lot of places that would allow you to stay but if you are travelling and its late its good to know there are places who have given their agreement before you just turn up

i know you can easily move on to the next place but from experience this can take all night!
