Roamingsue.

No, you are right, it may not be free, but nor would a 23.00 pounds a night pitch and your own food! with the CCC!

Look beyond your own needs and see what benefits these schemes may have for others before casting it aside as a "Not for you" type arrangement.

canvasrep, I have knocked the scheme as I do not want some of my regular stops full of motorhomes.I choose who I socialise with and certainly not because we have a motorhome in common.
Please read this and other threads on the subject in full before you sl*g off other members who have been on here for sometime unlike yourself.

This is a forum for discussions and surely everybody is entitled to express their own opinion. I don't agree that Roamingsue has "cast it aside as a "Not for me" type arrangement", in fact, I think she has put her point very well, saying:
I feel awkward eating on my own in a pub as a woman.   So am thinking it is perhaps not the right scheme for me. However do think it is a cracking idea because most of the people who are going to stay are going to have an evening meal.
She has "looked beyond her own needs" and thinks it is a good idea, but decided it is not for her. Just as you have decided that it is for you. If I was travelling on my own as a woman, I also would not feel comfortable eating on my own in a pub, and therefore would also say that the scheme would not be for me.

Ina thank you because I must admit I thought I was a bit pathetic to say I felt intimidated by eating a meal alone in a pub and glad to hear it is understood.

I think the problem is that in a conversation we here the 'tone' of the voice on a message board we just see the words and put our own 'spin' on the tone. I do not think canvasrep and I are a million miles apart.  I can see a smiling face at the end of canvasrep's post which I think says something even though the post came through a bit forthright.....

Sue
I certainly don't think it is pathetic to admit you don't feel comfortable eating alone in a pub. As I said, I would feel exactly the same. Not all women are confident enough to do that and I too belong to that group, if people think that is pathetic, so be it. You can't help who and what you are.

You are very generous in your analysis of canvasrep's post. The words "look beyond your own needs" were IMHO very unfair, as you had done exactly that. But you are correct, on forums, as in emails, because you can't see the other person's face, things can get misunderstood because of the way they are written. Also sometimes things are written in the heat of the moment and not checked afterwards before posting. Mind you, there is always the "edit" icon.........

Enjoy your camping, wherever you may decide to go

Hi sue

I'm sorry to here you feel intimidated by eating alone in a pub but can genuinely understand it. I travel a lot for work and until recently felt very much like you but I have now conquered my fear and regularly eat out alone - either that or another sandwhich in my room!

maybe you should give it a try sometime - choose a small country local then it wouldn't be so intimidating

You're not alone, I'm a strapping 5' 12" bloke and I can feel ill at ease in some pubs, it's either a good atmosphere or it's not, and when it's not I don't stay.

I've stayed in pub car parks, and been made very welcome too, but it has been a hit and miss arrangement, so some formalising would be nice.

As to paying 30 squids, I would expect something more than an online directory, that's the sort of subscription I would expect to pay for club membership with all the benefits it brings. I pay 27 squids a year for membership of British Naturism, for which I get a magazine, events, advice and and international card too.
By the way, British Naturism hold all the exemption certs now, one of only four in the country I believe.

The motorhomestopover database doesn't seem to be growing too quick so I have decided to pull out this year and spent the money I would have paid joining the c&cc. This gives me loads of cs's instead of a handfull of pubs.
Dont get me wrong, I think it's a great idea and worth the money, they just need more sites imo. If in the future this grows to a healthy amount, I will join up again.

I think its avery good idea, my query is, ie. is there any good computer buffs out there that  can convert all the info into POI? ie. just like archiescamping?? then we can all upload or download them to our GPS devices.

Some pubs will allow you to stay if you have eaten in them, you just have to ask, we have done this on occasions. Also membership of one or both of the two camping clubs or a quick look on the UKCS 'site search' will give you details of loads of pubs that already have facilities for camping and are registered as CLs or CSs with all the facilities ready set up. So might be worth a look first.

I don't like to use sites, even if they are attached to a pub, all I want is a stopover for one night as I travel a long journey, I don't want to be bothered with setting up on a pitch. When I'm traveling I often drive late, after the commuters have got home, and stop when I feel I can't drive anymore, so trying to plan a route brings more problems than I care for.

I travel to naturist events throughout the year, so I have my destination pitch sorted, I just want to be able to stop as and when my body decides it has had enough, and not be dictated by the very few stopover locations.

Why is it that I could do this in France, with plenty of town centre stopovers, yet in my own country I'm treated like a nuisance, don't the councils want me to stay in their town and spend my money?

I wonder how the European motorhomers feel when they come to Britain, very unwelcome I should imagine.

Pete

We are back on the subject of Aires in the UK. There are a few, very few as far as I can make out.

The main problem here is that the UK Police do not take robust action against the "Traveling Community" In France they do not mess about and there is no drivel about "' 'uman rights". So their Aires remain free for bone fide users.
