Hi there has anyone own or is contemplating converting a Toyota Granvia. We toured through Europe with one in the summer un converted fell in love with it and its now having a side conversion and rock and roll bed etc installed. Be interested to know if anyone else has done or is doing the same? A Toyota granvia is simliar to a VW camper or Mazda Bongo of which there is loads of info, but little on the net for the Granvia.

We got a Granvia a couple of months ago and we love it! We've had a 2L Townace for the last couple of years, which we adapted for carrying the dogs and our gear, and which we could sleep in for a night or two, but it won't pull the caravan too well so we upgraded to a 3L Granvia - pics in my gallery.

All we've done with ours is take out the back 3 seats and install a platform with a small mattress just over a foot above the floor, and a 'wrap around' dog guard. The dogs go on the platform and the space underneath is used for tools and other bits and pieces. There is also a good sized space between there and the centre seats where we pack all our gear. OH made a bed base which fits over the centre seats when they are laid flat, and with the front seats pushed forward we have a decent-sized bed. We also have a free standing drive-away awning which goes on the side - when we get on site we put the awning up first and set out table, chairs and kitchen stand etc then make up the bed, and as there's only the two of us the bed stays like that the whole time.

Up to now we haven't towed the caravan any distance with it, but it will be tested in a couple of weeks when we go down to Lincolnshire. We thought we were doing well when we got the Townace a couple of years ago - upgraded from a Fiesta! - but this Granvia is the absolute bees knees.

You're right when you say there isn't a lot of information about them, though I did find some on an owners club website somewhere - not Granvia owners though. Can't for the life of me remember which site it was but when I find it I'll let you know. Btw, 'scuse my ignorance but what is a rock and roll bed? Sounds b****y uncomfortable to me! lol

Hi tigermouse thanks for the posting.  That's pretty much what with did with ours we removed the 2 captain seats, a z bed mattress (without the frame) on the floor which we folded up when we wanted to.  We also had a drive away awning, with kitchen stuff in etc.  They are great, highly recommmend the Reimo tour easy drive away, up in 5 mins About £100

The rock and roll bed!  Well rather than describe check out  http://www.campervan.uk.com/Photos/Kit%20Photos/red%20bed.jpg doesn't look so uncomfortable in the pictures but time will tell!  Check this as well http://www.campervan.uk.com/Photos/Kit%20Photos/flat%20bed.jpg Jez at campervan.uk.com is doing the conversion for us.  Will post some feedback when its all completed we are hoping its all going to be done in time for a trip to Spain over Xmas.

On average around 30mph drops a bit when you travel at 70mph+ or are heavy on the accelerator.  I'm also considering having a LPG system installed that you cna toggle between Diesal and MPG.  Think the initial outlay will be returned in a few trips to europe.

We have the Delica which is very similar and have found it a great towcar or for a short stop we use a driveaway awning (movelite XL) the rear seats make a double bed and we then have a sleeping compartment in the awning plus room for a table and chairs there is enough room for 2a+2c and a 13 stone newfi,

Hi Tigermouse,

We've had the Granvia 18 months or so now, great beast to drive but a little thirsty, would'nt mind taking the rear row of seats out my self, how easy was the job, and did you get rid of them or are you lucky enough to be able to store them.

Love the width of it too, good alround mpv, plus I think it's the best colour ( yours and ours) two tone.

Reading the link, LPG on a diesel is not going to pay for itself & start saving you money after a year or so like a petrol LPG conversion.
