Watch the power outputs when buying these things! You don't want to trip the electrics on the campsite when it is busy! They only take a certain wattage!

Most UK sites are 16 or 10 amp which gives either 3,680 or 2,300 watts, so a 2Kw heater will not trip it unless you try to use the water heater, boil the kettle or use some other high draw appliances at the same time.

But beware French sites which are usually only 6 amp - 1,380 watts - so stick to lower power heaters there.

We used fan heaters for a while though they are noisy especially when trying to sleep.

Eventually we bought a panel heater from Tesco for about £10 (ten). It has 2 settings 500w and 1800w, is filled with air so is light and is totally safe and silent.

When we gave up camping our daughter borrowed it to use in the nursery for the 2 am call outs.

PS As I recall the brand is Glen but I have seen them under various labels.

We have one of these in our campervan but it doesnt throw out much heat in winter its ok for a constant temperature though and dries your socks and knickers great, thats if its the same as yours? Ours is tubular. We have a mini halogen heater for through the day it was only £6 from B&MS. It doubles up as a lamp as it is very bright!!

We have a halogen heater for use during the day.
This came from Towsure. Overnight we have a small oil filled rad. Does the job really well. Cost a tenner from somewhere like Robert Dyas.

I use an Halogen heater with 2 x Heat settings, 400 and 800watts, with safety switch built in, so if it get's knocked over it simply switches off. Like blondieandi said it also doubles as a night light. Keeps the chill off even in the depths of Winter. Paid around £9 for it, been worth it's weight.

 Happy Camping.

We bought a small fan heater recently for a tenner from comets.

I don't have a problem with the heat it provides it's a warm little bugger...... but we like to keep it ticking over on the stat through the night...and every time it starts up...I wake up...

so I'm going to change it for a oil filled rad..... hopefully it will be better.

We had a go with the oil filled heater, although it is silent it took too long to warm up and when warm did not give off the same heat as the small fan heater , so then we tried a 2kw convector heater, this was much better, a constant heat, silent, and well within the amps limit , we had it on a low to medium setting all w/end running alongside the Henry water heater, TV, booster box,  mains lights, and Fridge,  the only time we turned it off was to boil the kettle, ( I did boil the kettle once while it was plugged in and it didn't trip, but I didn't want to tempt fate )

So if I was to recommend a heater it would be... the convector... with the fan in 2nd place... and the oil coming in last.

Happy Christmas to all UK campsite members

Steve

We tried the following:

Halogen, quick to get going but heating very localised to the unit. (now lives and usedin my shed when needed)

Fan Heater, OK but the noise at night was a problem. (now used at work to warm me feet)

Oil filled radiator, slow to get going, took up the most space. (now used in the conservatory to keep the chill off)

Then we found a small 500 watt convector heater, and thats what we currently use, low enough amps for just about all hookups, thermostatic control, and mounted permently to the inside of the van.
