Hi Padster

My advice would be relax and enjoy yourself and dont drive by any motorhome salerooms as you might end up with one .

If you have any questions feel free to ask and you will get loads of good advice on here. Due to work commitments looks like we will be staying in Scotland this summer and hoping to go to highlands also, so if need any advice on sites or wild camping i will be researching them myself.

Good luck

Gerry

Hi Padster

Our friends chose Scotland as their first trip in their motorhome and loved it so much they talked about it for ages. In fact they still talk about it and it was 20 years ago!!

Don't know what you have planned so will assume nought! A good start would to plan your route so you see what you really want to. Also check out a few sites to stay at as you tour. Depends on how long you are going for, but I would think about relaxing and not trying to cram too much in. From our experience there is always something nearby to visit and worth staying a few nights rather than rushing on.

Some of the sites are worth visiting just for themselves and you can just sit and look at the views with a book, a glass of wine and a BBQ in the evening.

You can look at the campsite search via the map from the button at top of page and then read the reviews about them.

If you like a drop of wine, don't forget the bottle opener and bottle or two. A wine box is more practical.

If you are of a certain age don't forget your freedom pass for public transport as it is now national scheme. If you are younger, never mind.

Have a lovely time and might even see you on your travels.

Hi

Thankyou for replying i am in the process of researching camp sites and mileage distance between areas of interest to us.We have never had a motorhome holiday before but we are looking forward to the adventure ahead of us. We are taking along 2 x teenager kids & the dog. any ideas of what to cook etc would be very helpful and would any one recommend using the toilet facilities on campsites rather than the motorhome. All these questions im sorry

Whenever we stayed with friends in their caravan they always said the on board toilet was only for use in the night, the rest of the time we had to use to the campsite facilities. It cut down on the amount of times the toilet had to be emptied and also the amount of chemicals required.

I've just been sent a CD of photos from my relatives who live on the Black Isle north of Inverness.  Some of the places they've visited are stunning and I'm desperate to go up there and visit them.  It's as if around every corner is another stunning view.

I would agree with Jim,  use site loos unless its the middle of the night!  We have just returned from a couple of days at Bunree, fabulous site and a good choice for a newbie

We only use the on board loo in the middle of the night.

Most site loos and shower facilities are fine but do vary from site to site. We are happy with very basic if we like he site in other ways, other campers like piped music and underfloor heating! Don't forget the torch.

We only have a two ring gas hob or single ring electric. There are loads of cheap BBQs and others will recommend one I am sure - we use the disposable ones as there is only two of us and we don't mind the odd burnt burger! We tend to wander off to the nearest pub for the occasional meal out.

You'll love it!

We rented a motorhome for the first time last May and toured Devon/Cornwall for a week in the pouring rain - we had the best holiday ever! I've wanted to buy one ever since but DH is reluctant!

A portable BBQ is a must - we have this one: http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/fold-flat-bbq/index.html we even used it as a campfire on a couple of nights

Don't take too many clothes as there's limited wardrobe space on board. Use the site toilets/showers, all the sites we stayed on (bar one) were fabulous but use the reviews on this site, we couldn't have done it without. Make sure you tell the kids that the loo on board is for no1's only, unless you've a strong stomach :D

Enjoy!

So you can chat to the person in next cubicle of course whilst you go about your business!

I'm with Jarvis on this one! What's the point in having facilities on-board and not using them? We also prefer smaller sites like the CLs and CSs of the CC and CCC and many of them don't have toilets, showers etc

yes, joedenise, the en-suites are there to be used, we love our home-comforts rather than queuing like cattle in our jamas!
