Being new to motorhoming maybe someone can answer this for me.
We use our van as a base and walk out into the hills during the day only returning in the evening for a meal and to sleep.
If the site has electric hookup we leave the fridge on all the time. If there is no hookup I turn the fidge to run on gas. Is it safe and acceptable to leave the unattended van with fridge running on gas all day, or about 10 hours. I dread to think what would happen if a strong wind blew the gas flame sideways and started a fire and explosion.
Or am I just being over cautious???

I think you are being over cautious, if its a proper conversion, you will find that the fridge is (should be) well protected against the strongest of winds, we have a Talisman and like you we go out a lot, and i always leave my fridge on unattended, also the latest fridges  have a fail safe device, don't ask me how it works, but thats what i was told by the dealers service manager. Hope this has helped a bit.

Provided the fridge has been serviced with the burner cleaned it will be safe. If you can reach the burner clean it with meths on a cotton bud. Fridges have been known to catch fire if old & faulty but this will normally happen when the fridge is first turned on.

Some old motorhomes may have a fridge that has not been touched for 20yrs. The flue may have rusted away & the burner could be full of(flammable)rubbish. Anybody buying an old motorhome/campervan should have the fridge removed, checked & serviced.
