Hi - we're planning a 3 week trip to Scotland in August, from Canterbury in Kent. We want to maximise our time there by having just a very short overnight stop somewhere on route around the Midlands on the M6.

Can anyone recommend somewhere cheap and cheerful - a particular service station or something similar? We would only want to be there for 6 or 7 hours and maybe breakfast before hitting the road again

Says nothing about caravans

I am guessing you have a caravan or motor home

Come off M6 at A5 Junction 11 there are two cafe`s on this road with huge car parks they are good truck stops.

just before Cannock.

After junction 11 you can use Hilton services as already stated but only for 2 hrs after that the traffic can be nose to tale depending on what time you hit the area.

Cheap and cheerful.

Outside my house in  Northampton sounds just the ticket :-) There's a fab cafe down the road too.
