Hello

We have a Ford Herald motorhome.  Where we go they will be changing from annalog to digital in June.

Please can anyone help us as to what we need to buy for the motorhome.  We really do not have a clue and looking at shops etc. we are becoming very confused.

We would like to know what sort of a tv, aerial or dish(? at ?) and anything else you think we shall need.  Names would be good, we know what to look for then

Thanks everyone.

Hi Theresa
Look on   www.wedodigital.co.uk I bought a 12v/240v laptop type one which is superb,I use it with a normal aerial for freeview and also a Aldi sat setup for freesat which again is great although you will get very frustrated at first trying to set it up but you will get loads of channels and a reception nearly anywhere.
Also look on www.freesat.co.uk and www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk
Maplin are at the moment doing a sat setup for about £70 well worth it and use a camera tripod to mount the dish, far less than purpose made ones.

Hi Theresa. Most probably you would get away with simply buying a Freeview receiver box which you could connect to your TV either via a scart lead or just through the aerial. Plug your aerial into the Freeview box and then plug another lead from the box to your TV. Tune your TV into the box - as long as it's switched on you should get a signal out of it. Then tune in your Freeview box following the instructions supplied.
As you probably know, this will be happening everywhere over the next few years so you'd better get prepared. When it comes time to change your TV, make sure it has a built-in Freeview facility.
Or, you could go the Satellite TV route as above.

Pete

Mick the only problem is it`s 240 volt,I would not buy anything that is not 12v as well as I like small sites with no ehu or wildcamping.

Hiya wynthesurfer

Thats the cheapest package i can find on evilbay, but they can surf for a Pace 12v/240v system like the one i have, but they do tend to fetch around the £60 mark, but then you still have to source a dish, tripod, sat finder, coax & f connectors etc

Cheapest way to do it is to ask friends for an old box & dish then make tripod out of an upturned clothes drier

Supose it's a case of how deep is your pocket mate

Hi Theresa.

I work all day every day with such products.

You have a couple of options depending on where you intend to travel.

If you are travelling a lot on the continent, then you will need a FREESAT box, such as a GRUNDIG GUFSAT01HD and a dish 50cm or better such as the MAXVIEW omnisat kit.

Down towards southern france or spain, an 80cm dish is advisable.

If you are just staying around the UK, then a good antenna such as a STATUS or OMNIMAX will be fine, with a dvb (Freeview) box.

I assume you will be wanting to run these items on 12v, but if you are on hook up or an inverter, you can use a sky box and dish.

If you need some free advice or literature in PDF format, e-mail me at

nick at leisurepower.co.uk  and I will be happy to help you with any questions.

I will not post links to our website as that is spamming.

Regards.

Nick.

If it's for use in your motorhome I would advise you go down the 'Freesat' route as even when 'Freeview' (terrestial aerial) is rolled out over the country.......out in the sticks, there are parts of the UK where you will never be able to recieve a signal. Also if you intend going abroad you will still be able to access your favourite programmes over most of Western Europe and as far down on the Med as below the Costa Brava with a 65cm dish. If you are having problems setting up at the start .... there will be plenty of fellow campers around that will help you out.
