For some months we have had problems with our on board water tank (would not hold water). We have since had the motorhome serviced and the water tank should now work but I am worried about the fact that it has not been used for ages and may be 'lurking bacteria' etc. Can anyone give me any tips on what to use and any easy methods to clean it out to make sure we don't go down with Legionnaires disease!!
Hi there, just had the exact same on our bus, epmtied it out opened up the inspection hole in the top of the tank and wiped it out with kitchen roll, then filled it up again with a weak dilution of milton fluid & left it over night, drained and refilled :)
When using milton, just make sure that in its undiloted state its highly corrosive to stainless steel - so dont spill it in the sink! Also, if ypu run it into the water heater make sure you flush it out (same reason, potentially),
I've akways used milton because its so much cheaper thn the alternatives, but I'm beinning to wonder if specialist products arent the way to go.
If you can get hold of it what about beer line cleaner that is designed for plastic and metal and it a great claener for lines and tanks. Also designed as a safe product as it turns to a type of salt if not cleaned out properly also it feels soapy the liquid and when you run the water through then when the soappyness goes its out of your system

Hi, Use puriclean, it's the safest solution to use as it wont damage any part of the system and also leaves no after taste, Milton or similar can very easily damage connectors and the water heater, its not worth the risk for a couple of pounds extra.

The problem with Puriclean, as I read the use instructions, is that after the tanks then have to be flushed with fresh water, which seems to rayher defeat the object of the exercise.

So dont you put clean water through after using milton? whichever you use you should flush through with fresh water, The only diference is that puriclean wont damage anything but if you dont flush milton out it will definately ruin the hot water system.
