Hope this is not out of order to post here. No connection to myself but found this on ebay while searching for Merc alternator. Please advise (gently) if posts like this not welcomed. I just thought it could be a bargin for someone.
1 day to go and currently no bids, starting at £14.99

Previous owner has broken one of mounting lugs on this one. So now it doesn't line up properly with crank or fan pulley. He had then hammered a cloths peg into the gap in an attempt to line up pulleys and get some tension on the belt. OK for a get you home fix but the peg has now softened with oil / water. I suppose I could upgrade to a harder grade of peg :-)
Don't think it would be acceptable for exchange.
You have given me a thought though. There must be loads of alternators out there with nackered internals!

Thanks for the suggestion. I think that the broken lug on casing may preclude exchange or repair on this one.
I will go for one from a breakers. I used one of these multi-search parts finder things and quickly received about 6 quotes. Prices from £20 - £55, p&p from £10 - £15. 30day to 90day guarentee's.
I am picking one up from Oldham on Saturday.
