hi ,why bother with 12v. against most advice i just used gas when i had a 3 way fridge went all over europe n maroc never turned it off .just relit it if it went out . you will probably have no cold fridge if the sun is shining and the temp gets up . compressor fridge is the only way in hot weather. have fun ,cheers alan

Walan,

I believe its an offence to use a fridge on gas whilst on the road in France ( and probably other countries as well)

might be but it worked for me. make your own decision.i did.problem is when it gets hot due to the sun 3way fridges stop working. i went away one year and apart from changing gas bottles dont think it was put out for 6 months. use it on 12v only if driving or battery will be flat in no time.

Well folks opend up the back and using what Knoledge gained from you all traced the black cable to the switch. This i concluded must be the positive, wired up the plug that way, pluged in stayed on for two seconds and blew a fuse in the plug. This after much head scratching i fitted a uprated fuse  from 5 to 10 amp this worked but the plug gets a bit hot after a short while. This will have to be monitored on route, when on site i can revert back to 240v

Thanks to all who gave advice i am endeted to you all

The plug will get hot as it draws a lot of power. Be careful with the wire size to the plug as a thin wire may overheat and even melt.

Better late than never: for what it is worth, I tracked down the original manual as I have the same dilemma re blue, black. I had worked out the blue wire goes to the switch on top (black return from this switch) .... manual says connection can be either way for dc. Note it draws 10a so you need a sturdy cable, cigarette lighter plug (fused at 15a) and decent connectors etc. I tested it against a 1 year old Dometic - almost identical cooling times etc..... so a well engineered bit of kit, albeit gas and current usage reduced 20-30% on newer model.

Would rewire the fridge via a relay and in-line fuse to the battery. The relay coil is fed from an ignition live circuit so that it runs when the engine is running with the alternator charging the vehicle battery. If some distance in the wiring is required go with 3mm2 cross section wire as voltage drop will impair performance. Load will be akin to 2 headlights as a minimum.
