Hi my reverse camera has finally given up the ghost but it was an old B/W one with a huge and heavy monitor so no big deal really. What I would like to know is, are the wireless ones any good (6 metre m/home) and can anyone recommend any particular sort? I like the idea of the type that fits on the (redundant) rear view mirror.
I bought the wireless one from Maplin for about £80, the camera fits onto the number plate and is wired into the number plate light. I drilled a hole through the back of the van to get the antenna cable inside.
I used Velcro to fasten the Screen to the dashboard, if I want to use the camera I turn on the sidelights.
That sounds great Mike+Co. We have a B&W RC in our camper which views from the top of the back, it sees almost everything and is very helpful but does not see right down to the rare bumper, and your Maplins one in the numberplate would solve this.

I have a 7"colour monitor with high level wirless camera,, I fitted it 17months ago no problems with it, I'm well pleased with this system, it cost me £265 and fitted it myself. Our son brought a 3.5" monitor and wireless camera off e-bay for £90 and it works quite well, he's had it fitted now for 3years with no problems.

It's a bit tricky when you are doing 60mph on a French motorway and you need to check if anyone's tailing you. I could suggest it but I suspect that I'll come out in bruises
well thanks for that everybody . Looks like a wireless one for me
Did try enlisting the OH to guide me but being disabled she offered some highly imaginative and probably illegal ideas on what she could do with a crutch

I don't know what type your old unit is, but if its one of the Kress & Bohl type then you may be able to use the existing wire if it has the round 4 pin sockets, have a look at this web site some of them use the same connections and they appear good value, its where I purchased my replacement.
I stayed with a cable connection as i have heard of problems with the wireless units and they are not strickly wireless as the camera on most of them needs a power supply.
Never thought of that enodreven I have already ripped out all the old wiring and was thinking of a wireless one because I didn't like the covered wire going up the back corner pillar and the along the rail, but I will still need a power supply to the camera so I may as well have the reliability of a hard wired one
