I've heard if you have a home conversion you have to send photos to join the camping and caravanning club, one each taken from the back, front and both sides and an inside shot too. I am already a member as a tent camper, so hopefully will get away with it. I'm not sure if the caravan club have the same policy, but am hoping to join that too when vans ready. I think they just want to know its not just a commercial van with a mattress chucked in the back.
We belong to both C&CC and CC and have not been asked to submit a photo of our van, not even been asked what van we have when making a booking, and not been turn away when we just pull in
I think the photos thing is to do with the insurance, rather than joining the Clubs. Most insurers will want something for their files that identifies the van when it is not a known manufacturers model. The same applies with cars, e.g. "kit"cars.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
we do the odd bit of wild camping its what its all about ,if i wanted to go on site every time then i may as well have a caravan, cant beat a night on exmoor or bodmin, thats what the adventures all about,......best wishes billy in brum
That's right mate, a night under the stars that doesn't cost owt. All the best places are free and more peaceful. We do use camp sites and the cost is no object, but a night of wild camping is always worth it as you can camp where you want to camp,
Dont give up on a great way of living - think outside the box - the box being your camper!!! I'm replying to your post sitting on top of a hill in Oxfordshire. Nobody else will come here because the track I drove up is full of pot holes and water. So the vermin that try and break into your home probably dont even know the place exists!! What you have to do is make your camper adaptable to go anywhere and make it look like anything that isn't a home. That is on the outside; On the inside, its your mobile castle - Dont make it easy for them to get in!!!Like you Ive been doing this for years and I have never stayed on an official campsite yet and I dont intend to. I cant give too much away on my vehicle or my sites (hundreds of safe places) but dont give up on a dying breed mate, we need you!!!!
I'm a member of both clubs, tend to use the Caravan Club the most. I can't understand the hassle of wild camping. Why???
Last week stayed on a CL, cost £3. Picked more than double the amount of plums to cover the cost. This week came back from Lincolnshire. Again a £3 a night site by a lake. Mushrooms to die for just outside the van door.
Both perfectly safe sites. Didn't even bother locking the van door at night.
Oh dear oh dear, it's not a question of cost.
I don't have neighbours, I look out on green fields, oh nearly forgot, the only noise is the birds!
Why should I have to pay to have neighbours? Why should I put up with other people making a noise all night, shall I go on?
I think CL type of sites are only allowed to be open for 3 months of the year or something like that and they all close in the early autumn.
I don't mind paying up to £5 a night, all I want is the loo and shower - some campsites want £20 for one adult and tiny campervan!
When I am wild camping I only stop where I have a good mobile phone signal, I sleep with a rounders bat and yappy dog next to me. So far, fingers crossed, I have had no problems at all.
There is no limit on how long a CL site can stay open. Some close for the winter, but many are open all year round. The only limit is that you cannot stay for more than 28 consecutive days on any one site.
