can any one help? my leisure battery is getting very hot and the acid is boiling away

is there something wrong with the charging unit/fuse box  or am i not useing enough lights .     my m/h is a compass avantgarde 100     yr2003

When a battery starts to boil etc it means it is being over charge.

Eg the charging unit is faulty or the alternater.

Not always overcharge fault, a duff/worn out battery will give the same result as the charger try's to charge a battery that will not hold its charge.

Know this to my own cost...had to cut a holiday short, van in for a check over, lots of time spent checking elektrobloc...fault duff battery....could have saved myself 200 notes and just bought a 60 quid battery.

Lesson learned should have trusted my own insincts.

get the battery off and see how long it can hold a charge off the vehicle..but its prob goosed now any way after being boiled...plates will be buckled inside.

A bad battery could cause the charger to run all the time but I would have thought the battery would only get hot after quite a long time?

My bet is over-charging, of course as the fluid gets lower the temperature will increase.

A heavy short will give this condition but someting else should be showing a problem.

PLEASE be a bit carefull with this one as the gasses given off are quite explosive and batteries can explode when hot and low on water.

Dont play with it PLEASE get it checked out, do not just put up with it as something is wrong/faulted.
