I am wanting to go away with 2 friends who each have caravans. The site we want to go to doesn't accept tents so I can't take my usual outfit.

I have a Toyoate Hi Ace Super Custom which is a fab vehicle and the rear 2 rows of seats turn and covert into a large bed. There are curtains all round and I have small drive away awning (8' x 6') which attatches to the vehicle.

Would it be possible for me to use the car as our sleeping accommodation (me plus 2 boys aged 8 and 3) with the awning for living space or am I mad to even contemplate doing this?

We're only going for a couple of nights so what do you think?
Finding another site which accepts tents and caravans isn't an option for this particualr trip.

Will the fact that it isn't a properly converted camper cause problems? I have a proper 3 plug EHU which we use in our tent which I would take to use in the awning to power a light and fridge and I have my camping stove and kitchen stand for cooking.

Any comments, advice or if anyone has done something similar I'd love to hear from you.

I think that as your vehicle has curtains and looks like a small motorhome, the site will just assume that is what it is. I can't see any problem with doing as you suggest.

I have actually heard of folk being asked to pay for 2 pitches when they turn up at a site with a similar MPV and a tent, as the site say it is a motorhome, and have taken a lot of convincing that it isn't!

No problem, we sleep in our Berlingo (it has a bed platform built in).

In the 60's my old Dad put swish curtain rail (not posh, just the name!) right around the Austin Cambridge Estate we had . Him and Mum slept in the back with me across the front seats.

We had many a night on Scarborough pier on a Saturday (even though, even in those days there was a sign stating 'No overnight camping')

Go on, have a go. They can only say no but by then you will have been there the night.
