In the campervan I've just bought I have a Propex heater (not sure which one). When the 3 way switch is pressed to the right, the green light illuminates and the fan starts up to blow cold air. So far, so good,

However, when pressed to the left the red light illuminates but I hear nothing. No matter where the thrermostat is positioned the unit doesn't operate.

I use CampingGaz and there is a 3-way splitter pipe - one to the fridge (which works) and one to the cooker (which works).

Any ideas?

Thanks v much

The red light should blink. The number of blinks tell you what the fault is, If you had a manual.

Thanks your Lordship. I have just double-checked and the red light stays solid. So what does that mean I wonder?

You can get a copy of the heater manual on the internet. I lost mine and got another there myself.

I have had a number os faults, that in fact were not "faults" as such and were sorted easy. I seem to remamber that keeping the inlet and exhaust pipes clear and clean wa important.

There is also a re-set button inside the unit if you just lift the cover......

Thanks.

The previous van owner didn't use the heater for 3 years so it's quite possible that there is some blockage.

The Compact 1600 (as I have checked and discovered) is built into the bottom of one of the cupboards in the van. It's not easy to get at without dismantling the cupboard (so it may be a longer job than I imagined to check inlets / unscrewing the cover. But that's what I'll have to do next I guess). Thanks once again

PS: I have got the PDF manual from the Propex site thanks

N.B. have you checked the battery voltage? When  you try next make sure the voltage is more than adequate, if its below, the heater will not COME ON

There is a battery charge button which, when pressed lights a green amber or red light indicating stength of battery. this shows green.

As for the voltage, aren't all batteries 12V (excuse my ignorance)?

Hi yes the battery might be 12v but if it is below 11.4 volt it will not light,if you have avoltmeter then check what charge the battery is showing.

Thanks Wyn

I don't have a voltmeter I'm afraid. But I have inferred from what you said that if the battery is not fully charged then the gas will not light.

I should add that I have a leisure battery which I understand is relatively new according to the previous owner.

I assume that because the battery check button lights up green saying "fully charged" this means that there is 12V. But as you can gather I am not knowledgeable in things electric.

I am on the verge of driving to a nearbyish caravan centre and asking them to check it over.

Thanks once again

Lord Lucan

I have found the manual supplied with the van. It's actually a photcopy of someone else's manual. But there is no mention of fault finding, red blinking or what red blinks mean I'm afraid.

SO again it's looking like a trip to the caraven centre (probably at much cost)

Thanks once again
