York is a big show, it happens every year!   If you want to meet people you need to make arrangements.

Hi folks,

Soory for the delay, but I've been having a bit of trouble with the PC, but it's good to be back again from York Show.

Thanks to George 1, Caz and the lasses, and of course Billybun, Tina, and the little buns for all hunting me out at the Classic Camper Club pitches. I was impressed that they took the trouble to find 'us' amongst all the thousands of vans on the Knavesmire.

I must additonally apologise to Billy and Tina for cutting them short on Sunday after all the trouble they had locating me. I had already packed the van with the intention of getting away before the main 'rush' for the gates started, as they arrived, and due to the clutter inside the van, couldn't even offer them a seat, or, more importantly, a cuppa.

I will hang on to the PG Tips Billy, as I feel sure we'll meet again. They are still sealed up in the box, so they won't go off.  And again, thanks for the parts you brought over. I will find a place in the van for the pipes, somewhere, just in case they are needed.

Thanks to all, and best wishes,

Bill The Roadrunner.

Hi all sounds like everyone had a good time at the york show, sounds like it is chaos getting out of the place. I will have to get there next year,

Tony and Tracy.

No, not chaos, very organized but time consuming!

Took us about an hour to get clear, leaving at 5pm, probably a popular time.

Hi Tony & Tracy,

You don't know the half of it mate.

I have learned through experience, to either get moving about noon on the Sunday, but then you miss all the last minute bargains, as the show finishes officially at 4 pm, or, get back to the van when it finishes and have your tea.

After tea, about 6 pm maybe, then move along to the main exit and join the tail end of the queue, or, like a lot of folks do, stay the night, (for free), and drive off on Monday morning, after the rush hour.

It does take a long time for around 4,000 vans to get out of one exit road.

Bill.

We left on Sunday about 2pm. It was dead easy this time to get out, we drove straight out without even stopping, albeit at 0.1 mph behind a huge Dethleffs. Simon was even going to overtake him on the site lol !

We had just timed it right I think, while people were still at the show, others eating dinner etc, and some already gone.  Such a change from last year, it took us ages to get out.

Jana.

Hi Kingo,

Yes, as I had stated, the exit onto the main road is the problem with the York Show. It could really do with a roundabout there, but I understand "the powers that be" do not believe the  problem caused by traffic congestion, which only occurs at the end of this show, and of course also at  the end of race meetings, justifies the enormous expense involved in constructing one.

We'll just have to have patience and learn to live with it.

Bill.

I noticed a rare sight on the Sunday when we were leaving.......a policeman had the traffic lights on "manual" on Tadcaster Rd on Sunday afternoon. This no doubt eased the traffic situation compared with last year.
