Help!
I am considering purchasing a VW Camper, probably a T25. Does anyone out there know how I can get over the problem of rear seatbelts? I want to carry my three kids in the back but most campers I look at either don't have any, or only have 2 belts. How easy, expensive or even possible would it be to modify something with only 2 rear belted seats?
When I had my T25 it had two rear seat belts and just went to my local garage who put in a third lap strap using the anchorage from one of the other ones.

Just bought the lap seat from car shop and my local garage charged me £20 to do it for me. Being a girlie, I don't mess with car things - not even seat belts.

A T25 with factory fitted rear side windows(recognizable because the windows are recessed & look 'proper')will have rear seatbelt mounting points for 3 under rear seat but probabley with a camper it will only be possible to fit lap belts.
If the camper has a full width bed with no rear cupboard it might be possible to fit inertia reel belts to the outer seats but with a lap belt in the middle. There are mounting points for these.
Unfotunately most UK rhd T25s are made from converted panel vans with windows cut in afterwards. These vans have to have mounting points welded in.
You have accept you will not get modern safety standards in a 1980s vehicle. If you dont mind left hand drive you would be better getting a German Westfalia T25 camper conversion, these are the best campers, normally come with rear belts & they will have mounting points. Loads about in the UK but a good one will be in the upper T25 price range.
Although mine is Type 2 Bay, I fitted rear laps belts myself and they were a few pounds each from GSF and the fixing points were already there. Took about 20 minutes all in
its not hard to fit seatbelts in the rear .the problem is in an accident if one broke free who takes responsibility . as an ex garage owner i wouldnt fit them for you i would tell you different ways available to you. its about duty of care. if there are original mountings its not a problem. because m,homes were excempt even for children till just recently nobody bothered . talk to your local garage they may give you some ideas. cheers alan
have you looked at japanese imports like bongos and hiaces ...they tend to come with plenty of rear belts being based on mpvs, my hiace has six belted seats all in but some have eight.. have a look here for an idea of what I mean ... http://www.poplarmotors.co.uk/instock.php .....

Most VW campers only have room in the back seat for two, due to the way the bed is built (3/4 beds) to accomodate the side furniture/cupboards.
I can't really see that the OP can fit three cars seats in the back if they have cupboards down one side... I have a bay with cupboards down the driver's side and by the time I have put two car seats on the back bench, there's no room for any one else to sit on it.
So I'd assume the OP as a full width back bench, which aren't exactly rare, therefore the only question is whether the van has anchor points fitted to both sides. My van has (if i needed it..) for example. If it has one, fiiting a seat belt wil take about 20 mins, if it has not then it needs some welding, and as mentionned above, not many garages wnat to take this for fear of being sued after ..
