I fancy a new A Class but due to the shape of my driveway, I need one with a nearside accommodation door. The other stipulations would be no fixed bed, it has to be 6.5mts or less in lenght (2 berth is fine) and right hand drive.
I haven't seen any A Class motorhomes with a nearside door, but hopefully someone out there can enlighten me. I hope to be at the NEC next month, but it would help if I new which stand I should be looking for.
I think you will find the UK manufactured ones will have a near side door, continental manufacture have the off side door. This is down to the fact that when you stop in the Uk and open your door you go out onto the pavement side not the middle of the road, but when you get abroad they use the same logice but as they drive on the oposite side of the road the door will again open out onto the pavement, which is not the case when you use a continental vehicle in the UK. The same applies to caravans.
Machzone made n/s door A classes, also French built Pilote A class motorhomes were produced in UK spec with UK side n/s doors about 10yrs ago. Current rhd Pilotes have reverted to r/d doors tho. Do a bit of Googling & you may find what you want.
Thanks for that, all I have to do now is find a UK manufacture that builds an A Class, surely you would think that continental makes when they make RHD, then it would be just as easy to put the door on the nearside!
If you Google 'glenns leisure vehicles' you will see they have an 'N' reg Machzone A class in stock with UK n/s door. The continental makers can produce rhd motorhomes by using a rhd chassis. To put the door on the other side would require a complete redesign & the UK market isnt big enough to make it worthwhile.
I remember being at the NEC a few years ago, about 3 or 4, and Autosleepers had an A Class motorhome on show. Can't remember the name of it, and a look on Autosleeper's website didn't have any A class models listed.
Perhaps discontinued then, but maybe worth ringing an Autosleeper dealer to check on any secondhand ones?
