Hi

We have just noticed a leak at the rear of our motohome. It is obviously pretty long standing, but only came to light when the rear wall was saturated and water began to leak out.

We have been to a number of repair centres to get quotes and it looks like it is going to cost £2,000 - 3,000 to repair. We have contacted our insurance company who have been non-committal about our claim, and they are sending a representative out to inspect the motorhome this week.

Our policy says nothing about covering leaks, only accidents, so we're not quite sure what to say to this guy from the insurance company when he visits. He'll obviously want to avoid paying out if he can - and so may say it is just wear and tear.

Just wondered if anyone else has successfuly had leaks repaired through insurance - or any advice around how best to have a claim upheld

thanks in advance, Jonny

I believe that no insurance company will cover the result of faulty manufacture.

The subject is recent on the other forum and the general opinion is negative...sorry17

Please let us know the result of the assessors visit.

Is the leak the result of crash damage? even so I doubt the insurance would cover if you did not claim at the time. How old is the m/h? if it is only 3-4yrs old you might be able to get it fixed by the makers as it is not 'fit for purpose' contact trading standards. If the m/h is old & there is no accident damage, well just wear & tear unfortunately.

It's over 3 years old and the warranty specifically states it's covered against water ingress for 3 years. We have not had an accident that we are aware of - there's no obvious damage to the back of the van anywhere

probably water ingress from the rear 'high' brake light [if you have one],  had the same on mine. when it was removed the hole for the wiring wasn't sealed !. Friend of mine has also discovered that his autotrail highlight is not sealed.
