i recently received an email regarding the above scheme. the idea is that 500+ french campsites are offering stopovers(6pm to 10am) at a reduced rate to motorhomes. i have tried without success to find out more about this scheme and a list of participating sites. Has anyone any information about this scheme?

Hi, you can download the pdf containing all the details from http://www.ffcc.fr/data/GENERAL/file/36pages_stop_accueil_bat.pdf

It's around 500 campsites in France that will provide a overnight pitch for a motorhome and 2 adults at a set price. The price depends on the rating of the site and is valid all year.

2** sites - €8.50 per night
3*** sites - €10.50 per night
4**** sites - €13.50 per night

This price gives you a level pitch with access to fresh and waste water and chemical toilet disposal for a motorhome and 2 persons. Children up to 7 are free and each additional person costs €1.

You must arrive after 1800hrs and depart by 1000hrs the following day to qualify for the reduced price.

Ian

With so many aires to stop at I don't see them being much of a bargain.

The advantage to Aires as I see it is that you would get the facilities of a campsite but at a much cheaper overnight rate - could be very useful for us.

For just an over night stop, can not see the point, best to stop on an Aire or service station on the motorway. These sites would no doubt be well out of the way of main road links so you would not gain anything wrt travelling.

That looks like something worth looking at!
However a piece of advice I would give-offering first hand experience is do NOT use the motorway Aires or services for overnight stops. It may be free be but it certainly isn't safe. We were parked (along with many other vans/ trucks) in an Aires and 4 guys pulled up in a car at 3.15am and went round trying doors on vans and trucks. Thankfully we heard them and drove off beeping our horn. This was very frightening and we consider ourselves 'lucky'. The service part of the aires was absolutly not interested in our ordeal!! Park at your peril.
