We have been looking for a while at all the different internal layouts on various makes and models.
Quite like the Swift life style 520/540/620 also included the right amount of seat belts which is a must.
There seems to us, not lot of price differences
between private sales and dealers mileage does not seem to reduce the price at all, any help welcome.
Can any one tell us what thy are like to drive and own, also is the 1.9 turbo diesel powerful enough or would it be better to have the 2.8 turbo diesel.
MPG difference between the two engines would also help.

the 1.9 would be very underpowered, go for the 2.8 if possible

Fule consumption should not be that different, but depends on how you drive.

Dealers will offer you considerably less for ahigh milage vehicle, but sell one with high millage at the same price as a low milage!!

Agree with Andy above, 1.9 would be struggling, 2.8 much better.

Layout is something important of course, but one VERY important thing to check is payload. Some vehicles have a pitifully inadequate payload, by the time you have your passengers on board plus all necessary clothing etc, in some cases you are already very close to maximum payload. I assume there will be more than 2 of you, as you talk about "included the right amount of seat belts which is a must". Payload is not something that is usually advertised with all the rest of the features a motorhome has, but in my opinion one of the most important.

We owned and enjoyed 3 motor caravans, all new and medium size (about 24ft) and powered by 2.5 turbo diesels. All were coach built and a joy to drive and live in. They were especially good for touring in places like Scotland and the continent with open spaces but difficult to impossible in built up areas and Cornwall. Parking was a nightmare for example. Fuel consumption is also high and you have road tax and insurance to pay as well as storage.

The BIG snag was when we stopped we lacked transport and had to resort to buses and bicycles or feet. Of course we could have used a car sized one but that would have given a more cramped life.
We even considered buying a big American unit and towing a car or carrying a scooter but common sense kicked in.

Eventually we switched to caravans and LR Discovery's, which gave us transport off site but we never had a stable unit that we felt safe in.

Finally we bought folding campers and they were easy to tow with a small diesel car, very stable and light to shift and have loads of space and comfort.
