The best time to buy a motorhome is when you have done all your homework!

Read a few MMM magazines or Which Motorcaravan magazine, decide on the layout, there are too numerous to mention, decide on your budget and stick to it.

We bought our first motorhome about six years ago a used Elddis Autoquest 320 from a dealer in Leicester, Motorland owned by Chris Cole we did an excellent deal and when we decided to upgrade last year he bought the 'van back from us, nice bloke.

We then bought a new motorhome from Don Amott, Hilton, Derbys the sales guy Dan Allen again nice guy, straight talking, we did a very good deal.

However I have heard several good reports of buying private, but for me I would always go to a Dealer, then there is always the route of buying abroad.

I could write quite a volume on buying a motorhome but my best advice is do not rush into buying, it can be a minefield, and oh yes good look, and if you can drop me a line and let me know how you go on.

All the Best

Trevor

I bought my Bambi in July this year, was lucky enough to find a local seller in the classified ads. in my local paper - BUT I had been looking around for months beforehand.  See as many as you can, some are total sheds, some are luxurious in the extreme. Oh and always take it for a test drive.

Good luck,

Debbym

We decided to buy in April, looked on the net, viewed 3 that we'd seen advertised privately and bought the first one - all within a week of our decision.

We got Molly for £10,000 when they retail at £15,000 plus because her former owners had brought her over from Spain and had not registered her locally.

It cost us £350 to register and MOT.

I would like to emphasise that we were lucky that we didn't buy a pup, especially as we knew very little about motorhoming.

Hi, Santiago, I've just had a look at your van on ebay.  I notice that you have started it off at £4,000.  I'm not being "funny", but why start it off so much lower than the price you are looking for?  I see this a lot on ebay and can't see the reasoning behind it.

hi leets, we brought a cheap talbot express autosleeper 1984 in original interior condition but knew it needed work on the body and gear linkage. we were lucky a local one man band garage were happy to do the bodywork and mechanical work for £1200 so we have a little gem for £3300. Guess im saying you have to trust your instincts set a budget and if its your first camper like it is ours dont get too far involved financially until your sure the lifestyle suits you. Even with our modest purchase we can recover our outlay. Good luck to you
