I am about to buy a motorhome and use it for short weekend breaks around the Westcountry. Can anyone tell me how quickly pitches with electric hook-up get booked up and do most sites (especially in summer) insist on week-long bookings? I would only be generally looking to book for one or two nights.
I've never had a problem with short stays and I rarely book more than a few days in advance. Admittedly, I avoid popular sites at peak times, but there's usually an alternative.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
We often do weekends & short breaks. I would have thought sites would often have a few days available when they could not do a whole week because they have bookings expected.
Some sites can fill up early. I wanted 5 nights at seadown Charmouth in june last week - they couldn't fit us in til 28th
I wouldnt think youd have too many problems with all but the most popular family sites. If theyve a spare night or two, they arent going to refuse you. Try having a list of 'alterntives' for any given area you intend staying. As lets face it, in a MH, you can live with the crappiest of sites for just a couple of nights - not that anyone would choose to, but if you are 'stuck'.
We too live in Cornwall and have a MH AND do weekend trips locally. We do tend to book, even for weekends, but that's just because I'm organised (or boring some would say!). There are so many sites down here in our beautiful county that you'll always be able to find a pitch somewhere!!!
We hope you enjoy your MH as much as we do!

Kernow Camper - are there any particularly good sites near North Coast beaches that you'd recommend. Our favourite beaches are Holywell Bay, Lusty Glaze and Gwithian. Do you have any experience of staying near them? As I have two children, we wouldn't want to have to walk too far with all our stuff to go surfing!
For Holywell Bay Trevornick is the closest site (easy walk to the bay). It has been years since we stayed there but if you check out the reviews on here they all seem to be good!
For Lusty Glaze, we would use Porth Beach Touring Park. It's a lovely site (a bit expensive but nice so you get what you pay for) and it's literally just across the road from Porth Beach, and then Lusty Glaze is the next beach around the bay towards Newquay.
Not stayed near Gwithain, but friends have recommended Gwithian Farm - again search it on here and read the reviews.
Bude is fab for surfing BUT there are not that many sites within an easy walking distance of the beaches. If you don't mind moving your camper off site Widemouth Bay has a large car park, right on the beach, and it's surfy heaven!
Bring on the summer eh?

We enjoy our Cornwall long weekends as much as our longer distance breaks! That's the beauty of having it all on your doorstep!

The site we use most weekends is Bude Holiday Park, it's only a short distance from Crocklet's beach and if you walk a short distance along the footpath you will come to the sea water pool and Summerleaze beach. It's a great site it's got a swimming pool and a club with kids entertainment.

Roll on summer :-)
have you looked at Magic Cove site at Mawgan Porth, it is a very popular (so need to book), family owned site within easy walking distance from the beach and not far from Porth/Newquay.
