Hi all Satellite Users,
HELP...........!!!
After lots of consideration I decided to get a cheapish satellite system.
All went well till I came across "setting up the Sat" position. Not technically minded (this is the part I dreaded) Positioned south (as prompted by instructions)by using the satellite map adjust dish to position ASTRA 1 28E.
This is where the gray area comes in, by using the tv as an audible receiver, adjust the dish 3mm at a time listen to hear a change in the sound levels, phew...!
Spent forever tweaking this way and that, please tell me is it that hard or have I lost the plot?
I have trees and power lines close by, the day is overcast,I did move to various locations to avoid them, still no luck.Keep getting that message "NO SIGNAL"
Do I invest in a sat' finder, give up, any suggestions
most appreciated.

Move the dish a tiny bit at a time,if you move it too fast it does not have enough time to lock on to the signal.
When you are not far off the No Signal will disappear but you may still not get a picture until you are spot on.
Its not the same as an ariel, there is nothing on either side of the signal
Sometimes i can get it first time and then other times have to give up and have a beer and relax.
Make sure every thing is turned on and connected properly,i have tried once or twice to set it up with the lead not connected(time for another beer)

Hi, got to laugh at this as I did exactly the same last year.
Purchased one from Aldi or Lidl then spent a week at home, 1 week in Folkestone and 2 weeks in the New Forest with no luck (admittidly one 4 hour frustrating session I had not connected the lead )
So here are some little tips, it's not rocket science ONCE you get a signal for the first time, before then it's hell.....
1) As Pete said above ensure the satelite is at 90' to the floor, the arm should be horizontal (reading the instructions I spent ages trying to tilt it up, you do not need to)
2) Throw away any compass attachment that comes with it and get a small basic compass for a couple of quid, they are more reliable. my satellite was about 25' out from what the built in compass and sliding disk asid it should be.
3) Wait until you are away and walk round the site, you are more than likely to stumble upon loads of people happily watching their satellites, most of the camper vans also seem to have an annoyingly computerised system that spins until they lock on the signal, simply see where they are pointing and you are 95% there, at least you know roughtly where to start pointing.
4) Make sure there are no trees in the way of where you need to point, if there are move your base and try to get round them.
5) As you did before tune the TV to hear the signal, as long as you dont jerk the dish you can fairly then move it from left to right slowly and steadily and find a base signal (or louder squeel) , once you have that at least you know you're nearly there, tweak leeft or right and fingers crossed you're done.
Once you've done it once it really is couple of mins job each time. Hope it helps
Neil
